Do You Get Bitter or Do You Get Better?

I struggled with comparing my results to others more successful for a long time, even today it happens from time to time, but I heard a great piece of advice at a recent event and it was that “you can either get bitter or get better.”

Do You Get Bitter or Do You Get Better-

You need to run your own race

Often people are so focused on others success and they feel like they aren’t good enough or can’t achieve those same things. When you compare yourself to others and get upset you are really forgetting to factor in a lot of things.

One thing you should keep in mind is that everyone has their own race they need to run. Each person comes to the starting line from different places. Some people already have leadership skills, sales skills, people skills, marketing skills, etc. when they come to the starting line.

Where is your starting line?

Look at it like you are trying to run a 100 meter dash. The finish line is your end goal and the results you are looking to achieve.

Some people are going to come to the race and they are going to start on the 90 meter line and only have to take a few steps to finish. This is like the people that seem to become an overnight success in your business.

In reality they have just been working on themselves and developing their skills so much prior to the race that it seems like they are crushing you when you both started running.  However, it’s really more like their prior efforts allowed them to have a head start in the race.

At the same time maybe you feel like you should be succeeding just as fast but in reality you haven’t developed any of the skills, or relationships, or the leadership skills necessary to win at that level yet.

This of course doesn’t mean that you can’t succeed or can’t cross the finish line, far from it, it does however mean that you might need to go through a learning curve and get outside of your comfort zone first to reach your goals.

In my case I think I originally started a few miles away from the race track, and had to work on myself a considerable amount before I would even qualify to run in the race.

So next time you want to beat yourself up because you don’t think you are where you should be, remember everyone has their own race to run so stop comparing yourself to others. Again you have two choices you can either get bitter or get better!

Are You Attacking Your Day?

Let’s face it, we’ve all been there, some days we wake up and just aren’t really feeling it, well one great strategy for when this happens is to make it a habit of attacking your day.

Are You Attacking Your Day, attack the day, motivation, income producing activities, eat that frog

Tackle your most valuable income producing activities first

On the days when you just don’t feel motivated it’s great to attack the day and get done with your most valuable tasks first. Basically when you do this even if the rest of your day wasn’t that productive you got through the 20% of the tasks that create the majority of your results.

For example let’s say you were trying to get in shape. If you did your work out first thing in the morning you wouldn’t have to worry about getting to it later in the day or procrastinate and end up putting it off to the next day.

It’s the same with building your business. There are definitely times when I haven’t felt like doing anything, but I know if I make a habit of that it will only delay me reaching my goals that much longer.

However if I make it a habit to attack the day I can make sure I’ll hit my goals sooner even with an off day.

Focus on the activity and the right habits and results will come

You really can’t control your results and outcome every time. For example you might show your business presentation to a lot of people one week and have no one get started, and the next week everyone signs up.

When you focus on the results it can sometimes get frustrating, but when you focus on the activity and the correct habits, the results tend to work themselves out.

This is why it’s so important to attack the day and get your major income producing activities out of the way first. That way you know you have done the appropriate things to move forward even if the results aren’t just yet showing.

Leaders don’t always feel like it when it comes to moving forward and always being productive, but they do it anyway. That’s what makes them leaders.

There’s no comfort in growth, and if you want to always be comfortable you won’t go very far.

Are You Branding Yourself In Your Social Media Marketing?

A common mistake people make in social media marketing is that they don’t put themselves in their marketing content, a much better way to build a business online is to start branding yourself.

Are You Branding Yourself In Your Social Media Marketing, personal brand, online branding, online marketing, social media marketing, brand yourself, branding yourself, how to brand yourself

Branding yourself doesn’t have to be hard

A lot of the time people think they need to come up with a compelling business name or crazy logo that will magically draw everyone to them. In reality this rarely matters in social media marketing.

Branding yourself will do far more to attract people and leads and sales to you over some cool business name. In fact you might even be pushing people away from doing business with you when you aren’t a part of your social media marketing.

Social media marketing is just that, SOCIAL. I don’t care what industry you are in or what you are promoting, people do business with people they know, like, and trust.

If you are hiding behind stock photos or a generic business in your content you will have a hard time building trust and rapport with your audience. This is why it’s important to put yourself in the mix and start branding yourself.

It’s fine if you have a company but still add yourself in the mix for better results

If you don’t want to just strait promote yourself or maybe you already have a brand you can still put yourself into your content on social media to start branding yourself as well.

Too many people, especially in network marketing, only brand their company. This is bad for a few reasons. One you might decide down the road that you don’t want to work with that business anymore.

Or unfortunately that company may go out of business. Obviously you shouldn’t expect that your company will go out of business, but as the old saying goes, expect the best but prepare for the worst.

When you brand yourself this will help you do just that. Let’s say for example you were in the home repair business and you owned a construction company.

Your content could start with something like “Hi this is Bob Smith from XYZ construction…” This way you are still building content and awareness for your XYZ construction company, but at the same time your are branding yourself as the expert in construction.

When you brand yourself in your social media marketing it shows you are a real person and starts to create a relationship with your potential customers, rather than just being a faceless company trying to sell them something.

Are You Developing Yourself As A Leader?

A lot of people wonder why they start to struggle when they get outside of their close warm market, and the reason is you probably aren’t developing yourself as a leader.

Are You Developing Yourself As A Leader, developing yourself, develop yourself as a leader, developing leadership

Your warm market will usually cut you some slack

The main reason you start with your friends and family in business is that there is already a know, like, and trust factor there, and if you have an established credibility you will often get great results.

Another reason is that if you are talking to friends and family they will be more tolerant of you being new and not being an expert.

Of course you should focus on improving your skills and getting better as fast as you can, but you can be building your business and earning while you learn if you are starting with people you know.

As you move further out you’ll need to get better: Your business will only grow to the point that you do so you need to develop yourself as a leader

Would you follow you? This is a great question to ask yourself because it takes your ego out of the equation and really puts things into perspective.

If you feel you should be further ahead of where you are or maybe have a larger team, or that you should be making more money in your business, think about if the roles were reversed, would you follow you?

If the answer is no, that’s fine, it just means you need to start working on yourself more and become the leader you need to be to create larger results.

The further out from warm market you go the more you will need to work on your skills and leadership. Cold market can be great because they don’t judge you on your past, but they will judge you by who you are.

So the more you can work on yourself every day and constantly becoming better the better results you will start to have when you are building your business.

The more you can develop yourself as a leader the larger following you will develop and more success you can start attracting to you.

Do You Take Advice From The Right People?

Unfortunately all too often a lot of people new to building a home business take advice from the wrong people and listen to people in their lives who have little to no success nor the lifestyle they want.

Do You Take Advice From The Right People, who do you listen too, mindset, take advice, listen to advice, who do you get advice from,

There are 3 essential rules for success in a home business: Do you follow them?

The 3 main rules for success in a home business, or anything in life for that matter are Pay Attention, Get Excited, and Never Quit.  The one we are talking about today is focused on Pay Attention.

When you don’t pay attention to the right people you are setting yourself up for failure. Most people when they start a new home business don’t have any experience in the industry and therefore have a new skill set and learning curve to go through.

Unfortunately instead of paying attention to the people who have created results and success they listen to the opinion of people who don’t have the success or results in their life that they are looking to achieve. You need to pay attention to the people who have what you want and to people that have a vested interest in your success.

One of the fastest ways to create success in anything is the concept of matching and modeling find someone who has what you want, and do what they do, and you can get what they’ve got.

This holds especially true when you are building a home business. There is a system and steps you can follow that result in success, if you are teachable and take the action steps required to win.

Are you taking advice form the negative voice in your head?

I find there are times when people are struggling to build their business and not getting results are often the most close minded, or they focus on their made up self limiting beliefs. All a belief is, is a lie you keep telling yourself over and over again.

These beLIEfs can either be lies that propel you toward success or keep you in mediocrity. Maybe your’re learning a new skill like building your business online, or prospecting, or communication skills, basically anything that you are required to learn or do to become successful…Are your beliefs supporting you or failing you?

All to often that little voice pops up in your head telling you why you can’t be successful. Maybe it’s you aren’t worthy, you aren’t a sales person, you don’t have the right network, you aren’t computer savvy, you aren’t a people person, you are overwhelmed, you aren’t the type of person to make a lot of money, blah blah blah.

One thing that separates the successful form the unsuccessful is the successful don’t listen to these thoughts and voices. They understand that if someone else has done it so can they. Success isn’t for the chosen few, it’s for the few that choose.

So next time you are frustrated or not where you want to be ask yourself if you are listening to the advice of your negative beLIEfs or negative opinions from people who don’t have what you want, or are you listening to the advice of people who have created the success you want and can help you get there…the choice is yours…
