Why having an online marketing strategy is important for your home business

Why having an online marketing strategy is important for your home business, marketing strategy, online marketing strategy, what is an effective online marketing strategy, home business, home based business

Many people struggle with building their home business online because they don’t have an effective online marketing strategy. Today’s post reveals why having an online marketing strategy is important and what 3 step strategy can work best for building your home business.

Why having an online marketing strategy is important for your home business, marketing strategy, online marketing strategy, what is an effective online marketing strategy, home business, home based business

People do business with those that they know like and trust

One key factor, no matter what you promote in your home business, is that most people tend to do business with those that they know like and trust. This is exactly why most companies will tell you to start with your warm market, or friends, family, and close acquaintances.

Typically for most people they have that built in know, like, and trust factor built in with their friends and family and that’s why I also agree with starting with those people is usually best. The reason for this is that with this group of people they will most likely hear you out even if your invites are terrible or you do everything wrong.

Often these people will still do business with you because of the relationship you have with them. This however is not a free pass for you to spam them with your links or try and force them to buy from you or join your team.

This is another common mistake why people struggle with building their home businesses, even with their warm market. Instead of simply seeing if their close contacts are open to checking out or hearing about what your business offers many people just push it on them so aggressively that it turns people away.

You still want to follow the proper inviting techniques even if they are your warm market. If you are struggling with inviting people to look at your business be sure to check out my Inviting Mastery Webinar here www.coachmikemacdonald.com/IM

The first step of the most effective 3 part online marketing strategy to create that know, like, and trust factor with people you don’t know, is building your audience

First and foremost building your audience is the key foundation to building your home business successfully online. Too many people try and lead with selling their business, and without a targeted audience, your offers will just continue to fall on deaf ears.

Your major task each day should be focused on building up an audience and making new connections with people who are in your target market. That could vary from business to business as to who those people are, but building your audience is the foundation.

For example if you marketed health and wellness products, weight loss, or were a personal trainer, you should focus on people who have an interest in health and fitness. Certainly not every single person you connect with in this space will buy from you, or want to work with you, but they are your ideal people who most likely would.

As you develop and build this targeted audience from there the next part of this online marketing strategy is going to be centered around providing value to that audience.

Step 2 of the most effective online marketing strategy to grow your home business: Engage your audience

This second step of your online marketing strategy should focus on providing value based content to the audience you are building that solves their biggest problems. Nothing builds more trust, rapport, and credibility with your audience then solving their problems and struggles.

For example back to the weight loss case, if you know someone has been struggling for a long time to lose weight but they can’t seem to get results and after years of struggle, and then you give a few tips that help them lose their first 10 pounds, you will be their hero.

When you focus on providing value and not pitching and trying to sell your products aggressively it will start to attract people to you. However, another common mistake people make while building their home businesses is that they may have great content but no one is there to see it.

Blogging for example is a great way to engage an audience and provide value, and sell to an audience, but it’s not always the best way to build an audience. Unless you are an SEO master it can be hard to make money with just the act of writing a blog. With no audience built you can have the best blog posts in the world, but if no one, or your ideal target market, doesn’t see them it doesn’t really matter.

The 3rd step of a highly effective online marketing strategy is to finally sell to your audience once the first two steps are in place

Without a vehicle to sell to your audience or monetize your business you will find it hard to keep going. A major struggling point for most home business owners is that they focus on this aspect of selling first, rather than last.

You can put the same offer in front of someone who is cold market that has no trust, rapport, credibility, or relationship with you built, and get almost zero results, but if they do have that know, like, and trust factor built in you can sell a ton with the same exact offer.

An effective way to position these sales offers in your online marketing strategy can come in the form of an “oh by the way” offer. For example let’s say that you promote a coaching program. You can lead with your value based content and then at the end of the content you can have a call to action that is in the form of “oh by the way have you seen this…”

It could sound something like, “if you guys got value from these leadership tips, you can also learn more about joining my coaching program at www.coachmikemacdonald.com/workwithmike”

In this example your entire post isn’t about joining your coaching program, it’s providing value, and then at the end you have the “oh by the way” statement of “if you would like to learn more or like to take things to a higher level check out this ___.”  With this kind of approach you will never come off as pushy or overly aggressive and turn people off you are just simply trying to add more value on top of an already great thing.

Why having an online marketing strategy is important for your home business, because if you don’t follow this format you will end up pushing a lot of people away from wanting to buy from you or join your team, rather than drawing them to you.

#1 Rule How To Get More Sign Ups In Your Business Without Being A Spammer Or Getting Put In Facebook Jail!, online marketing, sales, network marketing, home business, home based business

One of the biggest stumbling blocks for people getting sign ups in their home business is that they aren’t seeing if people are open to their business before they pitch someone on it. This small tweak is the #1 rule of how to get more sign ups for your business without being a spammer or getting thrown in Facebook jail.

#1 Rule How To Get More Sign Ups In Your Business Without Being A Spammer Or Getting Put In Facebook Jail!, online marketing, sales, network marketing, home business, home based business

Treating your home business like a cocktail party is an effective way how to get more sign ups in your business

Many people who act how they act marketing their home business online, would never act that way if they were talking to someone in person.

Unfortunately because many people aren’t treating their business like a cocktail party that’s why they aren’t making money and getting new sign ups.

If you met someone for the first time at a party, would you immediately tell them how amazing your business and products are and talk about how they need to join your team or that you are looking for them to join your team?

I would certainly hope not. If you are doing that, that’s probably a big reason why your business isn’t working for you. Unfortunately a lot of people do this exact thing when they are promoting their business online.

They go into pitch mode and end up pushing everyone away rather than attracting them to them.

When you spam your business you might get someone started, but it’s not the people you are looking for

This is a sort of crass example, but I really relate growing your business and bringing on a new team member like getting a date. For some people their goal might be to bring someone home with them for…well you can use your imagination.

Now if that was your goal, would you think an effective strategy would be to go up to someone and tell them you thought they were hot and that they should come home with you? Probably not, I’d have to imagine you would get slapped in the face more often than not.

However after a few bruises and some pain you might finally get someone after being that direct to say yes to your request to come home with you. At the same time, is that really the person you want to be bringing home or introducing to your family?…I’d wager not.

Free to join is not going to attract leaders into your organization

Unfortunately this “come home with me” tactic is similar to the kinds of people you are going to attract to your business when you are spamming in groups or begging people to join your team or leading with free sign ups for people joining your business.

You certainly may get some sign ups or have people join if you are offering free sign ups or start now for $5 or whatever the case may be, but more often than not these people coming into it are going to have the “get something for nothing” mindset.

Unfortunately when people have that mindset they are often not going to stick around for the long haul when they don’t get something for nothing. Free samples are great if you can use them to close more business, but often you are just going to attract people looking for something for nothing yet again.

One reason people really struggle in their business is because they spend way too much time with the wrong people. If you are targeting people with free to join my team or get free samples tactics, especially with cold market prospects you’ll end up wasting a lot of time and attracting people with no money to join anything.

Last time I checked someone has to order products from you or get started with something where money is exchanged for you to earn any income. Even if you earned a dollar from each person who joined your $5 program you would need to find thousands of people a month to join to make a full time income.

Probably not worth the time to spam in groups in hopes of thousands of people joining when there are several other people doing the same exact thing. More often than not the exact same pictures, text and offer as well.

A much better way is to see if people are open first before you spend time with them explaining your business

A much better tactic that will be far more likely to lead to a sale or new team member joining you is going to be asking if someone is open to hearing about your business first before you present to them.

This way you won’t have to scrape the bottom of the barrel by pitching to people that they can join your business for free. A bunch of people joining for free pitching people on joining for free, moves no products and creates no business and just wastes everyone’s time.

You can certainly lead with free things to attract people, but I would suggest if you do, it’s leading with free training, or value, and not joining your business for free. Even if it is the case someone can join your business for free, in most cases people are going to want to have product on hand to retail, use, and market.

People aren’t really going to have a lot of success promoting something they have never used themselves. At the same time with no skin in the game many people don’t end up taking any action.

Again treat your business like a cocktail party and start to build relationships first and then see if someone is open to what you have and transition into what you offer from there. I guarantee you’ll get a lot better results when you follow that approach.

If you are waiting for everything to be perfect you are never going to win

If you are waiting for everything to be perfect you are never going to win, perfectionist, perfection, waiting for perfection, procrastination, action cures everything, mlm, home business, network marketing

If you are waiting for everything to be perfect and everything to be exactly how you want before you take action, you’ll never be successful.

If you are waiting for everything to be perfect you are never going to win, perfectionist, perfection, waiting for perfection, procrastination, action cures everything, mlm, home business, network marketing

Action Cures Everything not waiting for everything to be perfect

One of the main reasons why people aren’t succeeding is because they are stuck where they are at because they are waiting until everything is perfect before they take action.

Imagine you are on a cross country journey from New York to California. There is no possible way to make sure every single stop light would be green before you left the driveway.

Unfortunately, that’s what more often than not you are doing in your business.

You are going to have detours and roadblocks along your journey, but that doesn’t mean you quit

Just because there are challenges while building your business doesn’t mean that you can’t succeed. Back to the road trip example driving from New York to California, if you got half way and ran into construction and the road was closed would you turn around and head back to New York?

No you wouldn’t you’d find another way around. You are going to have to do the same thing while you are building your home business. Things aren’t ever going to be perfect.

Leaders keep moving forward regardless of detours.

You will have to get out of your comfort zone and face your fears

Your business will only grow to the point that you do. If you think that you can stay exactly how you are right now if you aren’t succeeding in your business, you are in for a rude awakening.

Everyone has the same 24 hours in a day and people who are succeeding are simply doing different things and thinking different thoughts. Success leaves clues, and working through your fears and getting out of your comfort zone is part of success.

Leaders have the same fears, negative what if’s, and self doubt that you have, but they choose not to listen to them and keep moving forward anyway. You need to ask yourself continually, are you bigger than your fears.

What is the size of the challenge that is going to stop you? Is it a few no’s? Is it someone quitting your team? Is it learning how to do videos? Getting through your learning curve for online marketing? Working through your shyness?

The size of the obstacle that stops you is really the size you have become as a person. If you want more and better results you are going to have to become more and do more to get those results.

Stop letting your fears and waiting for perfection keep you from the greatness you can really achieve in your business.

Can you be successful in a home business if you are introverted?

Can you be successful in a home business if you are introverted, can you sell if you are introverted, can you succeed in sales if you are introverted, can you succeed in a home business if you are introverted, sales tips, sales training, network marketing, home business, home based business

A lot of people wonder can you be successful in a home business if you are introverted, and in this post I cover some reasons why being introverted doesn’t dictate your success at building a home business.

Can you be successful in a home business if you are introverted, can you sell if you are introverted, can you succeed in sales if you are introverted, can you succeed in a home business if you are introverted, sales tips, sales training, network marketing, home business, home based business

Are you using being an introvert as an excuse for not taking action in your home business?

One big factor that impacted my business was when I stopped using the fact that I was more of an introvert as a crutch for why I wasn’t succeeding in my business.

Just because you identify with being introverted doesn’t mean you can’t have effective conversations for building your business.

One reason I struggled for the first two years in my business wasn’t because I was introverted, it was really because I didn’t know how to invite correctly for my business.

It isn’t about that you are introverted or shy and that’s why you aren’t talking to people, it’s more so because you don’t know what to say, or how to say it without being pushy or awkward.

I’d highly recommend going through my FORM Recruiting Machine Blueprint course as it was the major skill set I learned that kick started my business when I was struggling at prospecting and recruiting.

In addition to not knowing how to find someones needs and wants and reasons as to why they would join your business, transitioning from your conversation into business is another important factor to having someone want to take a look at your business.

I cover that thoroughly in my Inviting Mastery Webinar training and you can access that here

www.coachmikemacdonald.com/IM

Another reason people mix up with being introverted is that they think they need to be in selling mode to succeed in their home business

Many people also struggle if they are more introverted because they think they need to be an outgoing “salesperson” and that they need to convince people how great their business and products are if people are going to buy from them. This couldn’t be further from the truth.

Of course you should be passionate about what you do and represent, but you don’t need to try and aggressively push your business and products on people or over hype it to be successful.

When you are marketing your business you should really becoming from a place of how can you help someone rather than how can I sell someone. Coming from a how can I sell someone mindset is hard for both introverts and extroverts and it does little to actually bring in sales.

Your goal should be to find what people need, want, or have problems with and then solve those problems. When you do that it makes the whole sales process much easier and natural.

When you know what questions to ask and how to ask them, in reality you do very little talking on your end. Again this is perfect for introverts because if you are anything like me, you don’t want to be talking.

When you ask questions it puts you in control of the conversation and it will reveal how exactly you can help someone. If you try and push your business on someone you probably won’t have much luck and those people you do sell to most likely won’t stick around for very long.

Most of the time people end up talking themselves out of the sale, which is why introverts can have an advantage in building their home business

You probably never thought of being introverted as an advantage while building your home business, but there are several. One example is that in a lot of cases people tend to talk themselves out of the sale.

You should be using silence as your friend when you are closing in your home business and over talking, like many extroverts tend to do, can cost you the sale.

Rather than continuing to hype up your business after the presentation simply ask a closing question with something like, “Based on everything you saw, does this look like something you are ready to get started with, or was there anything else you needed clarification on before you get started?”

Then you wait. You don’t keep telling your prospect how great your business and products are. How your compensation plan is the best, how your team leaders are so amazing. You just wait.

Let your potential customer or business partner answer the question. In many cases they will say yes to joining your business or buying from you, and if not, you at least know why and can then move forward with overcoming that objection.

As an introvert this is great! You don’t have to try and re-pitch your business and sell someone on it, you let your business tools do that for you.

Your job is to set the appointment and then expose your business for what it really is, and then simply collect a decision. When you feel like you need to over sell and hype your business you want to do the exact opposite.

Again this is exactly why introverts can have the advantage in building a home business because they aren’t hype kind of people. Certainly be excited about what you promote, but that doesn’t mean you have to oversell it to get results in your home business.

6 pillars of building your home business online

6 pillars of building your home business online, online business, home business online, building your home business online, online marketing, pillars of online marketing, home based business

Do you struggle with building your home business online? This post is about the 6 essential pillars of building your home business online.

6 pillars of building your home business online, online business, home business online, building your home business online, online marketing, pillars of online marketing, home based business

Pillar 1 of Building an online home business: Personal Development and Leadership Development

Many people think that they can come into their home business and jump right to the top overnight. I wish I could tell you that was the case, but when it comes to building your home business online or anywhere for that matter you will probably need to learn some skills and develop as a leader.

Your business will only grow to the point that you do. When you neglect working on yourself and developing yourself as a leader, your business will suffer.

Pillar 2 of Building a Home Business Online: Personally Branding Yourself and Expanding Your Target Market Connections

When many people start in their business they spam their links and business all over and this does little to bring in leads or sales and in most cases ends up pushing people away from you rather than attracting them to you.

Ideally you should be branding you for several reasons. One reason is that your business might not be around forever. Obviously you want your business to be around long term, but sometimes that can be out of your control.

If you only brand your network marketing business and something should happen where that company goes out of business or you decide to do something else, all your time you spend trying to brand that business instead of you will have been wasted.

In addition to that people want to do business with leaders and people, not just a specific business. When you brand you and become the leader others are looking for you start to attract people to you.

The second part of building your home business online in pillar two is expanding your connections with your target market. Establish who is your target market and then go out and start making connections with those people.

For example if you market weight loss and nutrition, start connecting with people who are interested in healthy living. If you are looking for new quality business partners, start connecting with people who are into marketing, business, personal development, leadership, among other things.

The larger your network becomes in your target market the more likely it will be that you end up connecting with someone who wants to do business with you.

Pillar 3 of Building your online business: Monetization Strategy

You are going to need to have an effective way to monetize your marketing online as well. Many people join their businesses and start putting out content without any real plan to monetize it.

You need to have a strategy for monetizing your online business through your content. If you put out a lot of content that’s good, but if there isn’t a process for those people to join your team or buy from you, you won’t make any money.

Begin with the end in mind. What is your end goal that you want to happen? People to join your team? Get your products? When you know your end goal, you can create content that leads people into that end goal.

Monetizing your business correctly can is an essential step of building a home business online.

Pillar 4 of Marketing your home business online: Content Marketing

Content is king when it comes to marketing your home business online. This is where you want to provide value to your target market.

You should be focused on solving your target market’s number one questions and problems. When your content marketing is centered around this it will start to attract people to you.

As Zig Ziglar said, “When you help people get what they want, you will get everything you want.” Leading with value for your target market will do just that.

Instead of just talking about how amazing your company and products are while marketing your business online, rather you should be solving problems and questions your target market has and then lead into your business, or products as the ultimate solution.

This will pull people to you, rather than push them away with overly aggressive marketing tactics.

Pillar 5 of Building your home business online: Follow up and Engagement

The 5th pillar of building your home business online is having an effective follow up and engagement strategy. All to often people in the home business industry become beggars rather than leaders when it comes to follow up.

As they say, “The fortune is in the follow up.” However, there certainly is a right way and a wrong way to properly follow up.

You shouldn’t be hounding your potential customers or business partners to buy from you or do business with you everyday. Nothing is more annoying when someone is reaching out to you constantly and you know the only reason is to get you to buy from them.

A much more effective way of marketing your home business online is to add people to your list and then consistently send them value based content.

When you do this it actually builds a relationship with your potential customers and then when timing is right they reach out to you, rather than you having to try and always hunt them down.

Pillar 6 of building a successful online business: Traffic

Now this is where a lot of home business owners get overly focused on and become obsessed with getting more traffic. Traffic is definitely an essential part of building a successful business online, but it isn’t the first step you should be focused on.

Many people make the mistake of having this be the first step they focus on and spend a ton of money on ads or things to get traffic, but they don’t have the other pillars in place first and they end up just wasting their money.

Without the other pillars in place first what you are driving traffic to, won’t convert and you are going to just end up throwing your money away. There are all kinds of effective ways to get traffic for your business, but look at it more as a way to scale it, and build your audience faster once you have the other pillars in place for your business.
