One thing that I dislike about business cards is that they often are a one-time exposure method for your business. Another reason I don’t particularly recommend business cards to most new entrepreneurs is that they don’t realize how to use them effectively.

Ideally, you want to be getting someone else’s business card or contact information so you can control the followup process. Usually, people just getting started simply hand out their business cards, and hope the person who receives it will go to their site and buy their stuff or sign up for their service.

I hate to break it to you, but more often than not, that will never happen. Thankfully there is a way to combine social media with business cards and create social media business cards that can get better results.

When you create social media business cards or business cards with links to social media, you can turn this into an ability to continue to market your business long term.

Put social media links on business cards to get more followers

There are 3 major steps to growing your business with social media. They are to build an audience, engage with an audience, and finally sell to that audience.

Using social media business cards can be a gateway into building that audience for your business. Most business owners would love to have a way to get free targeted followers for their social media profiles, and business cards with social media links can be a way to do it.

This can also be a way to continue to engage with those followers on an ongoing basis. Most people who visit your website or get one of your business cards likely won’t be ready to buy immediately.

With that being the case, you need a strategy to continue to market to them, otherwise, they are very unlikely to convert into customers.  Linking someone to a social media profile that you provide consistent value on, can be a way to convert that follower into a sale. A few of the best social media platforms I recommend having a link on your business cards are YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

Each of these platforms can be used to continue to develop a relationship with those who originally just got a social media focused business card.

The foundation of this business card example that can help you generate leads, is a customer-focused tagline. A common mistake business owners make is that they only talk about their business features and not how their business actually helps their customers.

When you are promoting your business always think of what’s in it for your customers. On the business card example below you’ll also see a couple of calls to actions in addition to links to my social media.

If you want people to follow you on social media or go to your links you need to give them a reason why. By giving away something of value or “selling” your social media links, you’ll have more people go there.

How to use Instagram on business cards for lead generation

A business card that utilizes Instagram effectively needs to work in conjunction with your Instagram profile. Simply having your social media links on a business card isn’t enough.

For example, if I put my Instagram on a business card, I could then also include a call to action like, “follow me on Instagram and get a free training on Instagram marketing to get leads for your business.”

Now on my Instagram account, I would have the link in my Instagram bio go to a capture page that I could generate leads with. See the picture of my profile below.

This is a great way to generate leads and how to put Instagram on business cards to get new followers as well. If you aren’t sure where to get the Instagram logo for business cards, a great site to snag a royalty-free version is on canva.com. Canva even has its own business card creator as well. You can check that out here.

Another simple way to get an Instagram logo for business cards is to just take a screenshot from your phone and crop out the logo. You should be able to upload that logo on to your business cards easy enough.

Social media is great, but one downfall is that you don’t own it. It can be incredibly powerful to build trust and rapport with your potential customers, but you’ll also want to develop a marketing list that you own.

Social media business cards can be a gateway to having someone join your email list. As I mentioned above, by having Instagram on your business cards you can drive traffic there and then capture a customer email.

When someone is on your email list you can have a pre-made email series that continues to provide value and promote your business. By doing this it can help increase conversions from your business cards.

Timing isn’t always right the first time someone gets one of your business cards. However, when you combine your social media business card with building an email list it becomes a much more effective marketing tool.

Most people just send traffic to their home page. While this is certainly better than nothing, typically there aren’t any means to capture that site visitor’s information to market to them in the future.

With a sales funnel system, you can create a landing page that asks for a name, email, and phone number in exchange for some value-based piece of content. Using a sales funnel system in conjunction with business cards can help compensate for the business card’s weakness of not getting potential clients information.

As a business owner, you want to be in control of the sales process, not your potential customer. Driving traffic to a sales funnel system from your business card will allow you to have a system to follow up more effectively with your business card traffic.
