Mindset tips: Work where you are deserved not where you are needed

I was having a conversation a while back with someone who was interested in getting started with a home business and one big concern was about “can the new person get success.” Now that is certainly something to consider when you are choosing a business to build, however there is a certain way you want to look at this concept.

Of course each company you look at has advantages and disadvantages to their compensation plan and how quickly you can make money, however your biggest focus should be on does the system work. A lot of times people want everyone to win and that’s good, however they don’t take into account that some people even with the best system and coaching, don’t take the action steps necessary to win.

For example you could have a great product that provides a ton of value, the best training in the industry, and a great residual income, BUT if you don’t take any action, go through the training, or apply the training you still won’t be successful.

So the question then goes from can the new person win, to is the new person going to win based on their efforts. In my opinion any one can win, it’s just will they choose to or not.

Mindset tips: Don’t base what business you work with on the people who won’t do what’s necessary to win

Can the new person get success? Absolutely, IF they put in the work to do it. When I first started in the industry I was terrible. No sales skill, no people skills, no leadership skills, nothing.

Now if someone was going to determine joining a business or not based on whether “me when I first joined the industry” could be successful, heck you probably wouldn’t join any business. haha!

However, if you factored in someone making the decision of taking the time to invest in themselves, and learn the skill sets that it would take to be successful ,and putting in the work like I decided to do, then almost any business would be a fit.

One of the biggest take away’s you should think about is that you should only focus on what you can control. You can only put in the effort you can, and work with the people who are willing to work.

If you were a personal trainer for example and you had someone who “needed” to lose weight, but they refused to work out, and eat right, you would certainly drive yourself crazy trying “make them successful and reach their goals.”

It’s the same with your business, you can do everything in your power to help people succeed but if they don’t help themselves there’s nothing you can do about it. You need to watch what people do, not what they say they are going to do. That can be tough to swallow for some people, but you really need to understand that you can’t save everyone, only those who want to save themselves.
