Online Marketing Tips: Should You Use a Single opt-in or Double opt-in

In my option I tend to lean towards using a single opt-in vs a double opt-in, when you are setting up capture pages for online marketing and here are a few reasons why.

Disadvantages and advantages of a double opt-in for your capture pages

One of the advantages of using a double opt-in, meaning that someone has to confirm to be on your list is that you are going to get higher quality leads.

Someone who isn’t going to confirm their email probably either used a fake email, or they don’t check their email too often.

When you take out those people from getting on your list you should in theory have a higher open rate on your emails that you send out.

The disadvantage of using a double opt-in is that you won’t get as many people actually getting on your list. Having fewer people being exposed to you and your message and brand might not always be the best thing.

The goal of consistent email marketing and building value for you list is to build a solid relationship with them and if timing is right for someone on your list they will reach out to you and do business with you.

Lowering the numbers of people who can take part in that isn’t always an advantage.

Online Marketing Tips: Why I chose to use a single opt-in on my capture pages and offers

Now I’ve found that the more I can gain exposure the better for my business. Especially when someone is new and just getting started with building their brand and audience it’s usually best to grow that as fast as possible.

When you use a single opt-in you are able to grow your list faster. Depending on what email auto-responder you have it may cost you more for how many leads you have on your list, however if your list is big enough to be getting charged extra, you should be making money online at that point so it shouldn’t matter.

Also if things do get too big, you can just remove people who aren’t opening or reading your emails. Most auto-responders that only takes a few clicks to make that happen.

I’ve found you’ll get far more leads and more exposure to potential customers and business partners that just using a single opt-in can get you faster results and more engagement quicker.  Obviously you just need to look at the advantages and disadvantages for yourself and determine how you want to grow your business.
