After being in affiliate marketing for many years, there are several things I wish I would have known in the beginning. That’s why in this post you’ll learn the top 5 affiliate marketing tips for beginners and how to build a profitable home business with affiliate marketing.

Affiliate marketing tips #1 Focus on one thing to promote

All too often I run into people who are promoting 4 or 5 businesses all at the same time. They market 3 network marketing companies, that are completely different and they aren’t making any money with any of them…shocking.

Well the main reason for this is you cannot be successful marketing many different things that are in-congruent. When you attempt to do this you lose all credibility and won’t be successful with any.

You can eventually promote multiple offers, but I’d never recommend promoting conflicting businesses, like two network marketing companies for example.

If you are going to promote multiple businesses or affiliate marketing businesses, they need to stack and be congruent. An example of this is having a network marketing business, and also promoting an affiliate marketing business centered around lead generation, and coaching, and even training course info products.

In this instance you are promoting a lot of things but they all feed into each other and they don’t conflict. They can all help someone be successful with each business and they aren’t pulling people in different directions.

However, you should start off, focusing on one of these things, and not trying to do all of them at once. Certainly something you could build up to with affiliate marketing, but starting off as a beginner, you’ll want to pick one thing and promote it.

Affiliate marketing tips for beginners #2 Consistency is key to success

Another mistake people make as beginners in affiliate marketing is that they aren’t consistent. Consistency is key to success with anything you want to achieve.

Even with the right strategies and tactics affiliate marketing won’t work if you aren’t consistent. This means you need to be consistent with your marketing strategy and active income producing activities.

Showing up is half the battle and then some. If you aren’t showing up on a consistent basis you can’t be successful. Building a profitable home business with affiliate marketing takes time.

The good news is that the steps to learn affiliate marketing and building a profitable business are simple, but it takes consistent action to get results with it.

Look at building an affiliate marketing business like you are getting in shape at the gym. You would never expect to do a workout once and be in the best shape of your life forever.

The same is true with affiliate marketing. It takes time to build up your content and success, so keep consistent and results will come over time.

Affiliate marketing tips #3 Focus on one strategy

As entrepreneurs, business owners, and affiliate marketers, we can some times get off track. The thing with affiliate marketing though, is that there are so many different strategies and social media platforms that work to build an affiliate marketing business successfully.

The problem is that most people get caught up in shiny object syndrome and get pulled in 100 different directions. A bunch of strategies work, but they only work when you work them.

For example there’s Instagram marketing, Twitter marketing, YouTube marketing, blogging, and on and on. Bottom line it can be overwhelming when you try and do everything at once.

Spreading yourself too thin with affiliate marketing strategies will keep you struggling. Instead, focus on one marketing strategy and master it, before moving on to other strategies.

Master the basics along side of your chosen strategy

Another aspect that a lot of people neglect is developing the foundation skill set of sales. This means learning how to ask the right questions and close your leads.

For example many people think the thing holding back their affiliate marketing business is a lack of traffic to their offers. Certainly that can be a part of it, but it’s typically a conversion problem and not a traffic problem.

You man have several leads coming in each day, but if you don’t know what to do with those leads it doesn’t really matter. This is why in addition to mastering one or two marketing strategies you should also master the basics of sales as well.

Make building an email list a part of your affiliate marketing strategy

Regardless of what primary strategy you decide to promote your affiliate marketing business with, you should also make building an email list a part of your marketing strategy. Choosing a marketing strategy like blogging, or video marketing, and focusing on it is important, but some strategies you don’t always own.

Social media marketing is a powerful way to build your affiliate marketing business, but it does have downsides. A major reason to build an email list alongside social media is that you own it.

Social media platforms are definitely a part of a successful marketing strategy, but they can come and go. They can become unpopular, change their policies, or you may even have accounts shut down. When you build an email list, it will be around long term, and you are building an asset you own.

Additionally you can also re-market your affiliate offers to your email list. Not everyone is going to buy from you the first time they see your affiliate product. They may need multiple exposures to your offer before they buy.

When you create an email series in an email autoresponder like Aweber, you can continue to provide value to your list and increase conversions. This is one of the most powerful marketing strategies you can use to promote and sell affiliate marketing products.

Affiliate marketing tips #4 Don’t wait for results make them happen

Are you waiting for results to just magically happen in your affiliate marketing business? Unfortunately a lot of people fall into this trap, we want results, but we take a small action and wait around to see if anything comes of it.

Well all out massive action creates massive results. Dipping your toe in the water doesn’t create success. When you are building your business you need consistent action but stop being addicted to the results while you are doing it.

Success with building a home business and affiliate marketing takes time. You won’t experience riches overnight, but with the right dicsiplines you can create success overtime.

The little things you do everyday add up overtime, so be sure to keep your eyes on the long term prize and not on the day to day results.

Success in affiliate marketing really comes from the compounded efforts you do. People who look like they created massive success overnight, really have been building on themselves and building their empire one brick at a time.

It looks like overnight success from the outside, but it took time to get where they are at. So don’t beat yourself up if you aren’t super successful right away.

Don’t quit before your harvest.

Your business will only grow to the point that you do and when it comes to the best affiliate marketing tips and tricks this concept holds strong. If you are looking to create massive you are going to have to develop yourself massively.

I know for me one of the major shifts that took place in my business from years of struggling into creating success was I really started focusing on personal development.

Everyone has the same 24 hours a day and what someone does with that time determines their results. Investing in yourself is one of the best investments you can make to grow your business.

Wherever you go, there you are. So whatever it is you promote with affiliate marketing, network marketing, or whatever other business you may have, you take your skills and knowledge with you.

This is why it’s so important to continue to develop yourself and your skills. Without the right skills and knowledge you will continue to struggle in your business.

Make sure you are working on your leadership and sales skills in addition to the marketing skills. Personal development has dramatically changed my business and results over the years and something you should make as a part of your daily habits.
