How Do You Know Your Business Is Protected?
Of all the things that your business is concerned about, keeping itself watertight should be the number one priority. If you cannot your data from the outside world then how can anyone trust you?
Clients won’t want to work with you while consumers will be flocking away from your business if they find out how lax the security is at your business. It’s not just computers that you’re fighting against in this modern world of firewalls, viruses and malware.
But also, you’re fighting against human beings, hackers that do this for a living. They are very good at it too so it’s not as if you’re going up against some misdirected teenagers in their parents’ bedroom despite what some Hollywood movies might lead you to believe.
Things move so fast that it can be difficult to know if your small business is actually protected or not. At least in the sense, if you are vulnerable to attack.
Thankfully there are some easy ways you can find out if you have the right precautions set up to deal with any eventualities that may befall your small business.
How Encryption Works
What is most valuable?
Let’s first consider what is most valuable to a small business when it comes to security. First and foremost it’s keeping consumer data safe. This means, the names, addresses, account usernames, account passwords, credit card details, purchasing history and much more, safe.
These details are incredibly valuable as these are essentially the key components that a consumer will use to make future purchases. They will log into their account to buy something from your website which means they will be sharing data that they voluntarily gave you. The best way to protect consumer data is by using the triple threat method.
Firstly, you do not have your own servers but rather user a cloud system which provides you with your own private data but on their own protected hardware systems. Then use several layers of passwords for each level of entry such as for firewalls. The last method is to use encryption so any data that is stored is kept in a mangled unreadable format and this is also the way that it will pass through servers and firewalls.
Have a mock test
One way to make sure your business is secure is to run tests that will determine how it would stand up to an attack. Using risk assessment tools you can see how a servicenow security incident has been handled by security module.
Different areas like workflows will always be points of entry for those that want to harm your business both from the inside and outside. Using this software you merge your security and IT infrastructure as one.
Everything is monitored in unison and during a mock test, how both systems have performed can be analyzed in detail. You have dashboard analytics right at your fingertips so all the information is also easy to understand even for a novice.
Businesses often live and die on the amount of security they have protecting their consumer data. However workflows and automations are some of the key modern areas in which internal threats need to be combated also.
