How To Get Traffic To Your Website For Beginners
More traffic to your website is important, but if you are just getting started it can be a bit overwhelming knowing where to start. In this post I’ll cover how to get traffic to your website for beginners.
How to get traffic to your blog website
So one thing to understand if you want to get traffic to your blog website is to make quality content on a regular basis. Many people focus only on getting people to their sales pages and offers.
A common mistake like this is sending people directly towards their duplicated company website. Unfortunately, that rarely converts and you’ll just be wasting your time.
Sales is certainly a part of your traffic strategy, but if you want an effective way to get traffic to your blog you need to lead with value first. (Check out this post on leading with value first)
There are a ton of strategies you can utilize to bring in more traffic to your blog, but if you aren’t serving your audience it doesn’t matter. A foundation to getting traffic to your blog website is to understand your target market.
People don’t just come to view your content for content sake, they come to solve a problem that they have. (For example, you are here because you are looking to solve the problem of getting traffic to your website.)
As you learn what your target market needs, wants, their pain points, and common questions they have, you can be a resource to provide answers.
This should be a foundation to all of the blog posts you make. They need to be entertaining, educational, or inspirational. The type of blog you create will dictate what each of these you focus on most.
Misconceptions about how to get traffic to your website and a strategy that works
A lot of people think they can just get traffic immediately as they write their content. They think that just by posting a blog people will show up. In reality, you need to build your business online with 3 simple steps regardless of what you market.
The 3 steps are to build your audience, engage your audience, and finally to sell to that audience. In my experience, I’ve found that a blog is great to engage your audience, and sell to your audience, but it isn’t always the best to grow an audience.
Why I say this is because typically most people are not familiar with SEO or search engine optimization, which is one key source of traffic to your blog. If you aren’t promoting your blog or website beyond just writing a post, there is no way people will see it outside of SEO.
As SEO can be a somewhat difficult marketing strategy to master, you’ll often need to build your audience on other social media platforms to get exposure to your website. As you do this you can then share your blog posts and website on those platforms to drive traffic back to your website.
If you don’t have any method of capturing the information of a visitor to your website through a lead magnet or email capture form, the likelihood they will return on their own is very small. I’ll cover this concept in more depth further on in the post.
For those reasons, I’d suggest using your blog mainly as a means to engage your audience and sell to your audience. Then also set up methods to generate leads from the visitors that do reach your site from other promotion methods.

Easy steps on how to get traffic to your website for beginners
Typically when you are looking for a way how to get traffic to your website when you are just getting started you will do it through sharing on social media.
One great option is to install a social sharing plugin on your blog. This gives your visitors an easy way to share your content. Thankfully there are a ton of options in this department. One that I’ve used for a while is called Digg Digg.
It also creates a floating share bar with various platforms. You can even adjust what social platforms you want to show up when people share through that plug in.
The foundation to marketing anything including your blog starts with building your audience, then engaging them, and if you are looking to make money blogging, selling to them.
How to drive traffic to your business website
As you continue to create content on your blog you want a strategy for how to drive traffic to your business website. Typically you want to do this because you have some kind of offer for sale.
A common mistake people make is that they create content talking about the awesome features of their products. While there is certainly a time and a place for this, it’s not a good strategy to drive traffic to your business website.
Why this is a bad idea is that people love to buy, but they hate to be sold. You need to have your content that talks about your business and website focused on what’s in it for your potential customer and the befits they receive, not about the nice features of your products.
This comes back to the concept of leading with value first. Let’s take for example your business website is trying to market a weight loss product.
Instead of creating a blog post about the awesome ingredients in your products, talk about the benefits of the ingredients. Better yet don’t even create a post on that, instead, do something that is related to weight loss.
So, for example, a post on 10 foods you should avoid to lose weight fast. That kind of blog post creates curiosity and is very shareable.
Then at the end of your post, you simply have a call to action that tells people if they really want to lose weight fast, check out the product you are promoting.
How to get free traffic to your website with SEO or Search Engine Marketing
Now that you are starting to understand leading with value on your website, you want to combine that with what your target market is actually looking for. There are a few ways to get traffic to your website, one of them is to remarket your content to your existing list and audience, and another is with SEO or search engine marketing.
Search Engine Marketing or SEM is a great way to drive traffic to your website for free because it happens when people are actively looking for content you are writing about. This strategy has the potential to bring in very targeted traffic to your website for free!
The downside is that using SEO and SEM to promote your site can be a little complicated and also takes time to take effect. You shouldn’t expect to write a blog post today, and then have thousands of visitors flocking to your site tomorrow.
The SEO on your site takes time to get recognized by search engines, but when done correctly, it can bring new website visitors to you on a regular basis.
Get Traffic to your website with Keyword Research
The foundation of SEO and search engine marketing is going to be keyword research. Keyword research is basically taking the time to understand what your niche and target market are actually looking for.
This is important because you can find out what kind of content to write about, as well as what kind of offers you should make to your audience. Doing keyword research before creating your content can help you better utilize the free traffic strategy of SEO and search engine marketing.
There are some basics to using keyword research to get more website visitors, but it starts with understanding your niche. When you know your target market, you can get in their head and know what they think.
You’ll understand things like their questions, pain points, needs, wants, and struggles. This makes it easier to come up with potential keywords they may be searching for. I’d suggest checking out the video below on some of the best free keyword research tools to get a better understanding of how keyword research can help you get traffic to your website.
How To Get Free Backlinks To Your Blog And Rank On Google For Free Traffic
As far as SEO is concerned as a means to get free traffic to your website, you’ll want to get as many backlinks as possible. If you aren’t familiar with what a backlink is, they are basically links other people put on their site that link to your site.
Ideally, you want these to be from websites that have high authority and traffic. You also don’t want to have a lot of links from low quality or spammy sites, as that can actually end up hurting your SEO. So this means that not all backlink is created equal.
Another thing to understand with setting up backlinks for your site is that the traffic gained from them is not an overnight thing. It takes time for your site to rank on Google and you’ll want to combine this strategy with others listed below.
Now a common mistake people make is that they beg people to share their stuff on other people’s sites. A much better way to do this is to lead with value and collaboration with others. Doing this strategy will have people much more likely to share your links to your site because they are featured in it.
Another cool way to get quality backlinks is through something called helpareporter.com. This is a site where you can be a “source” for reporters. Basically, you provide your expert opinion on subjects you are familiar with already, and they credit it back to you and your site!
This can help you create quality links back to your site, get free traffic, and boost your SEO ratings! Check out the video below to get more details on how to get free backlinks to your website.
How to get cheap traffic to your website and protect yourself from social media shutdowns
One of the cheapest ways to get traffic to your website is through email marketing. On top of that, it is also very highly targeted.
This can be a part of growing your traffic with organic and free strategies but also combined with your paid traffic strategies as well. Why building an email list is important is that it is a traffic source you both own and control.
There are cheap traffic sources or even free traffic for your website you can generate through social media, but you don’t own those traffic sources. Sharing your content on social media is a start to bring in traffic, but building out your email list should be a primary marketing strategy you build over time.
This can help protect you against things like a small advertising budget, low engagement rate, social media platforms going away or becoming unpopular, changing policies, or worse case having an account shut down.
For example, I had built a Twitter account of over 90,000 followers and had it shut down out of nowhere. Not even sure what I was doing wrong as my account for fun about video games and nerd stuff even got shut down. I know for me if I hadn’t had an email marketing branch and other options for building a list and traffic I’d have been screwed.
Since then I have started to build another one, but it’s obviously not fun having to start from scratch again. Good news is that with an email list and other marketing strategies in place you can bounce back quickly. For example, my new Twitter account already has several thousand followers and is growing rapidly. This is why you should focus on email marketing as a part of your traffic strategy in addition to social media.
Tools you need for building your email list and using them as a way how to get traffic to your blog site
Email marketing is great because it is a very cheap option for traffic. Also, the only things you need are a few tools like a sales funnel system and email autoresponder to make them work.
If you’d like to check out some free trials of those tools for your business, click here for the email autoresponder, and here for the sales funnel system.
Beyond that, as you build out your email marketing list, it can become a great strategy of how to get traffic to your blog site. This is effective because as you build out your email list, you’ll do it through free giveaways and lead magnets.
A lead magnet is something of value you give away for free in exchange for a person’s name email and phone number. Check out this post on how to create a lead magnet to learn more.
Bottom line, people don’t opt in for an email list or lead magnet if it can’t help them solve their problems. This means if your lead magnets are centered around solving your niche’s problems, they should be getting leads from your ideal clients and customers.
With this in mind, as you continue to create blog posts and value-based content that serves your audience, your email list will still be interested in that content. Your email marketing blasts should be a simple means of driving traffic back to your blog site.
This is why email marketing becomes so effective for getting traffic to your blog site.

How to get more traffic to your blog website with Instagram marketing
Another great way to get more traffic to your blog website is through Instagram marketing. Instagram marketing is another cheap traffic option and in many cases also great for free traffic.
Using Instagram to get more traffic to your blog website follows the same foundation formula of building your audience, engaging your audience, and then selling to your audience.
One effective strategy to drive traffic to your blog website is by having a link in your bio that goes to your blog. This gives your new followers the option to come see your blog website through the link in your bio.
I’d suggest as you gain new followers to send a message that says thank you for following you and that they may also enjoy checking out your blog and to click on the link in your bio to check it out.
Another strategy to bring traffic to your blog website is through using Instagram stories and highlighted stories. As your following grows you can even attach a direct link to your blog with each story you do. If you’d like to learn more about building your business through Instagram, I’d suggest checking out my post on how to make $100 a day with Instagram.

How to bring traffic to your blog website with Twitter Marketing
Another great marketing strategy that’s an effective way to bring traffic to your blog website is through Twitter marketing. Twitter marketing is very powerful for driving traffic to your blog website or other offers because you can automate much of the process.
Sharing your content on social media is a great way to attract traffic to your website for free, but it does take time. With Twitter marketing you can set up tools to both grow your Twitter audience and to distribute your content on autopilot.
The foundation of this marketing strategy is to properly set up your Twitter bio. This is with a cover photo, website, bio description, and pinned tweet.
All of these options can be used to get traffic to your website. Your cover photo can simply be branded to your website, which is a passive way to raise awareness and have people visit your site.
You can also include a link as your website, which can drive traffic to your site. Then a pinned tweet can do this as well. Each time someone visits your profile they will see your pinned tweet. If it goes to your blog or website it can send a lot of free traffic there.

How can you get traffic to your website through Facebook groups
A common question I get is how can you get traffic to your website on Facebook without paid advertising. I’ve found that Facebook groups are a great way to get traffic to your website for free.
The foundation to this is to find groups in your niche. It’s very simple to do that. Let’s say you are in health and fitness, you can just start typing fitness into the search bar on Facebook. Hit enter and then click the tab for groups.
At this point, you’ll have a huge list of groups in your niche that you can join. Certainly read the rules in the group first, and don’t just spam your links there. But build relationships with members in those groups, and link to blog posts and your site when appropriate.
This could be to value-based blog posts, that helps those in the groups you joined. Some of these groups will have tens of thousands of people in them. Hopefully, this answers the question of how can you get traffic to your website through Facebook groups. There’s a picture below as well so you can see what it looks like when you are in the right place to find these groups.
How to attract traffic to your website for free with video marketing
One of the best ways how to attract traffic to your website for free is through video marketing. Similar to blogging, video marketing with YouTube is a form of evergreen content.
This means you can create the videos once, and they can continue to bring in traffic for free to your website on a 24/7 basis forever. Plus video marketing is one of the best ways to create trust, rapport, and credibility with your audience.
There are a couple of ways to get free traffic from YouTube and video marketing. One is through a call to action in your videos. This is basically when you tell your viewer to go do something.
So you may say something like, “If you enjoyed this video on sales tips, you might also want to check out my blog post on how to be great at sales at xyz.com”
You could also direct people to a link in the description of your bio that heads to your website. When you create YouTube videos in line with SEO strategies you can generate a steady flow of free traffic from YouTube to your site.

Are traffic exchanges like Traffup.net a good way to increase traffic to your website?
Another common question I run into when people are asking for ways to increase traffic to a website is are traffic exchanges a good thing to use. If you aren’t familiar with a traffic exchange, basically you can upload content to the site and then either buy points or earn points. From there you will then spend points to get other users to go to your site.
While this can be a way to get a lot of traffic to your website fast, is it really worth it? There is a big difference between the types of traffic you send to your website.
Having a lot of traffic going to your website is great if visitors are not targeted it almost doesn’t even matter. In most cases, you should focus on quality over quantity.
Using traffic exchanges like Traffup.net can hurt your Google Ranking and should be used with caution
Using a traffic exchange can get free traffic to your website, but it comes at a cost. Typically the cost is going to be a lower quality of traffic. You might be wondering is low-quality traffic a big deal?
Certainly having both quality and quantity is the end goal, but in the beginning, you should focus more on quality over quantity. In my opinion, using traffic exchanges to drive traffic to your website is actually a bad idea and can hurt your website growth.
One thing Google factors into their ranking of websites is bounce rate. When you use traffic exchanges like Traffup.net most people who visit your site aren’t targeted and they are just looking to earn points for themselves by going to your website.
This means they don’t really care about your content and as soon as they are on your site for a few seconds to earn their points, they will leave. This will make your bounce rate very high and can actually hurt your site rather than help it.
Traffic exchanges aren’t all bad though and I think they can be used in certain ways to get free traffic to your website. If you’d like to learn how to use them in a good way, check out my Traffup.net Review video below.
How to attract traffic to your website with paid ads
Certainly free traffic isn’t the only way to drive traffic to your website, you also have the options of paid ads. There are many advantages to paid advertising, and there are definitely ways how to attract traffic to your website with paid ads.
First off, if you are advertising on social media, you typically should not be advertising to a sales page on your website. Paid ads to drive traffic to your website are no different than organic strategies.
You still need to follow the formula of building your audience, engaging your audience, and then finally selling to your audience. The great thing with paid advertising is that you can re-market to people who have already seen your content.
This is similar to email marketing campaigns. Most people need multiple exposures to you and your business before they buy, and this is why paid strategies for traffic are important.
How to choose what traffic strategy is right for you
Now you may be wondering how do you choose a traffic strategy with so many options. Well, the good news is, is that regardless of what option you choose, they all work when you work them.
So that means you can really focus on strategies that you like, versus having to implement and learn them all. My suggestion would be to master one strategy first and then add other strategies after that.
You can really use any social media platform to drive traffic to your website and build an email list when you master it. People often get into trouble though when they try and implement several strategies at once.
They get caught up into shiny object syndrome and jump from one strategy to the next without mastering a single one. The last thing you want to be is a jack of all trades when you aren’t very good at any of them.
I’d suggest focusing on one strategy until you can get at least 5-10 leads a day consistently with it before moving onto another strategy. By that point, you will have built up the foundation skills that you can apply to any platform and get success. From there you just need to learn the specifics to each platform and then getting traffic from them should be no problem.
3 steps to building your business with online advertising
You can use multiple ads to follow the build, engage, sell formula. One ad can be to start building your audience on various social media platforms. From there you should run an ad to a content piece of your website like a blog post.
Finally you’ll run an ad to the people who have viewed the blog post to an offer or a lead magnet or your free give away. With this strategy you can continually be funneling people through the build, engage, sell process with paid ads.
This is one of the best ways to build your email lists, and to increase sales, as well as a great way how to attract traffic to your website with paid advertising.
Facebook advertising is a great way to start at a relatively low cost to grow your business. If you’d like to learn how to advertise effectively with Facebook ads, I’d recommend this Facebook Advertising Course.
How to check traffic to your website
There are a couple of ways how to check traffic to your website to analyze what marketing strategies of yours are working. Most blogs you can install Jetpack as a plugin to view stats on your page.
This is a very simple way to understand what traffic sources are coming into your page and where they are going. Looking at these kinds of things can help you plan your content more effectively as well as understand what kind of content you should create more of.
Another more sophisticated option is with Google Analytics. With Google Analytics installed on your website, you can really understand the traffic and activity on your blog website even further. It is the most advanced way how to check traffic to your website.
If you are just getting started using Google Analytics it can be a bit overwhelming. There are so many features that you can use to breakdown and understand the data of traffic to your website.
I’d recommend taking the courses provided through the Google Analytics Academy to learn more. They are free and really give you a great understanding of how to check traffic to your website and more.
Follow these steps of how to get traffic to your website for beginners and you’ll see more visitors to your blog in no time!
