How to overcome the “I don’t know anyone” objection in network marketing

An objection you’ll get from time to time in network marketing is someone saying that they don’t know anyone, there are a couple of things on how to overcome the “I don’t know anyone” objection.

How to determine if your prospect is actually interested

One thing to understand is that not everyone you talk to about your business is going to be a good fit. For example someone who says this, may just not be interested in joining your business to begin with.

A good thing to do when you encounter any objection in the process is to isolate it and make sure that it is really the true objection. In this case I would say something like “Just so I’m understanding you correctly you like everything you see, and the business makes sense, you just think that you don’t know enough people to build a successful business, or is that just your polite way of saying no?”

At this point if they said it was their way of saying no, you just saved yourself a ton of time trying to convince someone who really wasn’t even interested in joining your business to begin with. If they said yes that their only concern was that they didn’t know enough people, then you have something to work with.

How to overcome the “I don’t know anyone” objection

Once you have determined that they are actually interested in doing the business, but they are just concerned about their network, you can move forward with addressing that concern. After isolating the objection tell a story or explain how to overcome it.

In this example you could say something like “Hey I can completely understand how you feel, and I felt the same way when I first saw this. I’m pretty introverted by nature and didn’t have a huge network when I saw this for the first time and I didn’t know if I could be successful either.

What I found was that when I got started and plugged into the training and system, it wasn’t about how many of my close friends that did this, it was more about learning the skill set of how to prospect and recruit. By learning that I found that I was able to build a successful business and get people started and build a team regardless of being introverted or knowing a ton of people who I thought would get started.

So if we can show you how to build an organization and become successful without having a ton of close contacts who do this, would you be ready to get started?”

If the person doesn’t say yes at this point they probably have another objection and you can just repeat the process. For more information on the exact steps to take to handle any objection, check out my other post here!
