Personal development – possibly your missing link to the success you want
Many people often wonder why some people are successful, and others are not. Successful people don’t have an extra hour every day, every person on this planet has been given the same 24 hours a day. In other words the successful people of today simply do different things and utilize those same 24 hours a day differently. It’s a matter of habits, it’s never been about how much time a person has it is always about how effective people are with their time.
In my opinion utilizing personal development is one key way to separate yourself from the rest of the pack and take your success and leadership to a whole new level. The most effective ways to do this I have found is through books and audios. A few of my favorite authors would be Napoleon Hill, Brian Tracy, Anthony Robbins, John C. Maxwell the names could go on and on but these are a great place to start. I have always been a believer of if you find someone that has what you want, and you do what they do you can get what they got. Matching and modeling can be a great advantage to get you to where you want to be in life. If you don’t have a personal mentor or someone to model, personal development might be a way you can do that. You can look at personal development as the key to unlocking the knowledge and secrets those people that you wish to model have taken years to develop. Most authors or successful people either had years of experience or had done years of research before they published their first book. Now understand by simply reading that book or listening to that training you would be able to assimilate the key points they felt was important after years of success and research. By applying this simple concept you could cut years off of your learning curve to being successful.
I talked earlier about success being a habit, but many wonder how to add personal development as a new habit. The average person doesn’t read a single book after formal education. Now imagine you were to only read one book a month in your field, how much further ahead do you think you would be? Now one book doesn’t sound like a lot, but one book a month for a year is 12 books after 5 years is 60 books! Maybe my college was different but I know I wasn’t forced to read 60 books for my major. Imagine the extra knowledge you would acquire through that, and how you would tower over your competition with skills and knowledge they didn’t have at that point. If a book a month sounds intimidating start with something easy as 10 pages a day, it’s easy to do but also easy not to do. By the end of the month you will have about 300 pages done or had read one to one and a half maybe two books. You could also listen to books on tape while driving and turn your car into a university on wheels. Utilizing all the extra time you have substituting listening to music to something beneficial to your goals and success. I hope this will open many of your eyes to the possibilities of adding something simple like personal development to your daily success habits and that many will take action and implement it in their daily lives.
