Can You Start A Business With Zero Technical Know-How?
Whenever you read stories about people who build successful startups, they invariably have a technical role. The list of examples of people who fit into this category is seemingly endless: Bill Gates, Steve Wozniak, Mark Zuckerberg – all of them have a technical background. But do you really need to be a tech expert to start a business from home? It can be a concern for those of us who don’t have these tech skills whether we can ever start a business of our own or not according to neilpatel.com. In this post, you’ll learn some tips on how you can start a business with zero tech skills.
Get enough base information to make informed decisions about outsourcing parts of your business
Well, there’s good news and bad news here. The good news is that there is now more technical support than ever before for entrepreneurs who need it. Thousands of agencies and consultants are on hand, ready to assist you. The bad news is that you don’t have any direct oversight. All you can do is marshal resources. You have no idea whether the proposed solutions will actually deliver the results that you want for your firm. You have to trust others.
Before you start outsourcing, it’s a good idea to at least have a basic understanding of what you are doing and what needs to be done. There is a wealth of knowledge online, and simply watching a few YouTube videos and doing some searching on Google can be enough to get you started.
You don’t need to be a tech expert, to grow your business as there are so many tools and systems that take the technical skill variable out of the equation. I’d recommend checking out this book Clockwork to learn more about outsourcing. Pick it up on Amazon here.
There’s now a lot of support available for people who need it
The range of support available to firms right now is quite extraordinary. For example, you could hire us to do your digital marketing. Maybe you need help with the technical IT service end of things.
As the guys at cyberjaz.net point out, even people who start home businesses can now outsource all their technical, computer-related tasks. It all comes through the cloud.
There’s support for other things, too, like IT strategy and social media marketing. People with analytical skills can adjust your campaigns and IT strategy so that they perfectly align with your goals.
If you are running Facebook ads for your local business that can be outsourced, or maybe you need content created, that can be outsourced to us as well. Click here to learn more about our Facebook marketing and content marketing package.
You Can’t Always Tell What’s Going On
With that said, non-technical people who start businesses can’t always tell what’s going on. You’d like to believe that you can delegate to people. But, ultimately, there’s a higher risk that things will go wrong if you’re way out of the loop.
Your ideas for the future of your company and the technical reality could be at odds with each other. This is why I mentioned earlier that you should have a basic understanding of what is happening before you outsource.
Another good idea is to hire a coach to help you. You don’t need to always be the expert, but you can hire people who are.
Consulting, therefore, will become a vital part of your daily routine. You need people who can dispassionately look at your systems and then tell you whether you need to intervene at a high level or not.
You’ll also need to keep tabs on the products and services themselves. Not knowing about the nuts and bolts of the products that you sell automatically puts you at a disadvantage.
Don’t buy into excuses like you aren’t a tech person
Another common mistake I see is people buy into their excuses that they aren’t techy or that they are “computer illiterate”. Stop giving yourself that excuse.
Technical skills are learnable skills like most everything else. I wasn’t overly technical when I started marketing my business online, and you don’t have to be either.
It does, however, take the willingness to learn. So many times I see people shut down immediately and close themselves off completely whenever things get technical.
How does that serve you? Burying your head in the sand any time things get techy is not how you become successful. Again, you don’t need to be an expert, but you also shouldn’t buy into your own excuses that you aren’t techy and immediately tune out.
How bad do you want to be successful in your business? Would it be worth putting in some effort to learn a skill set you don’t yet have to become successful?
The basics are everywhere being taught for free. When in doubt, reach for Google or YouTube for answers. There’s a good chance the resources are out there.
If you want more resources, you have to be resourceful. Share on XStop buying your weak excuses and at least make an attempt to figure things out on your own before writing yourself off that you can’t do it.
Start an affiliate marketing business
If you don’t yet have a business, a great place to start if you aren’t technical is with an affiliate marketing business. Why is this a great business to start? Well, first of all, you don’t have to come up with a business plan, you don’t have to make your own product or services, you just promote someone else’s.
If you aren’t technical, business savvy, or even have experience marketing online, affiliate marketing can be a great place to start. In most cases, the companies will have web pages, products, payment systems, and logistics all figured out for you.
All you need to do is focus on promoting and selling. This means that the skills you need to know in order to become successful are dramatically reduced. With a few marketing tools in place, you can have your affiliate marketing business up and running. Start a network marketing business
Starting a network marketing business is another great way to build a business without being overly tech-savvy. Similar to affiliate marketing, network marketing allows you to plug into a business model that is already set up, you just need to promote it.
Plus with network marketing, there is so much quality training online that can help you become successful. I put together a post on network marketing basics to help you get started on the right path.
Another benefit of starting a network marketing business is you get to work with a team of people who have a vested interest in helping you to achieve success. There are leaders in the company who have already created success and they can show you the path they followed to build a successful business and you can do the same.
The startup costs for a network marketing business are also very minimal compared to traditional business. While a traditional business may cost thousands to get started, most network marketing businesses you can start for a few hundred dollars or less.

Start a business from home selling digital products
This next step will require a little more technical skills, but with today’s technology, starting a business selling digital products is easier than you probably think. If you have a smartphone, and access to the internet and a few hundred dollars to set up a basic website or sales funnel system, you can be in business.
For example, the first digital product I created, and which remains one of my best sellers was my FORM Recruiting Machine Blueprint. This teaches people how to effectively prospect, recruit, and sell without being pushy, salesy, or awkward even if you are introverted.
When I first created this product all I did was record the audio training aspects with the voice recorder on my phone. The additional cheat sheets, scripts, and pdf downloads that come with it were all created on Google docs and Microsoft Word.
From there I simply hosted the products online on my website, set up a free PayPal account, and started selling. You can create digital products for nearly any industry you have experience in and then sell them effectively online.

Earn money with YouTube Marketing
Another great way to start a business without technical know-how is through YouTube marketing. Again, if you have a smartphone, and internet access, you can pretty much start a YouTube channel.
Getting started is simple, and as long as you create valuable content that helps people you can start to build a following. It can take a while, but once you have 1000 subscribers and 4000 hours of watch time for the year, you can start monetizing your channel by running ads on it.
This can become an ever-increasing source of income for you. Plus if you’ve started any of the other businesses I talked about above like affiliate marketing and network marketing, you can promote those on your YouTube channel as well.
By promoting your other businesses on YouTube you can get free search traffic and earn money and generate leads before you reach the monetization thresholds. Check out this post on getting YouTube subscribers fast, and the video below on making money on YouTube with affiliate marketing.
Technical knowledge helps to start a business, but it’s not required
Whether you can start up a business with zero technical knowledge depends heavily on the industry you occupy. You can delegate and get somebody you trust to oversee the technical side of things. From there, have them report back to you in a language you understand. In others, though, that’s not an option, and some you only need the basics to get started.
If you’re running a home business by yourself, then, clearly, you need some skills to get started and you can outsource as you grow. Having technical knowledge can be helpful when starting a business, but it’s not a requirement. You can simply learn as you grow.
