Have a system of accountability to achieve your goals faster
Create a system of accountability for yourself and you will achieve your goals much faster.
Set up a system of accountability – “What gets measured, gets done” – Byron Schrag
One key reason people do not reach their goals or desires in life is that they don’t have any type of system for accountability to help them reach their goals. Unfortunately most people are like a ship without a sail or even worse without anyone to navigate the ship in general. For example let’s say someone’s goal was to lose weight and get in shape. Without a system of accountability it would be as if you were to ask them how much they currently weighed and what their desired weight was and they had no idea what either was. If you don’t have a benchmark or some type of system in place to track your current results and what the activities are that will help you reach your goal, you will be far less likely to achieve it.
A great option no matter what goal you are trying to reach is to use a focus board. This is simply a way to keep track of your daily activities that will help you reach your goal. For example your goal may be to increase your business to a certain level and you had first determined that the most income producing activity to increase that business would be how many sales appointments you had each month. You determined that you wanted to reach that next level in your business in 120 days so you make a chart with 120 boxes one for each day and simply mark off each day once you had done a presentation. Now at this point you would easily be able to determine if you were on track or off track based on how many boxes were filled out depending on what day you were looking at. Having a physical copy of this focus board will help you achieve results faster.
We often as children and as adults like to play games and you can do just that with a focus board. If you view it as the faster you fill it out the faster you win the game or reach your goal it will help compel you to reach your goals faster. Also if you miss a few days you can easily see that you have fallen behind because your empty boxes start to pile up. A great cost effective way to do this focus board is with a white board and some dry erase markers. You can even combine multiple focus boards into one by having color coded check marks for each box representing the different goals you are perusing.
If you don’t have your goals and the activities to achieve then locked down and simply have a vague idea of how you are progressing it will take you much longer to hit your goals. As stated above “what you measure, gets done.” For example if you were writing a book and a friend asked you “how is the book coming along?” each week and your response was simply “it’s going good” there is no accountability with that question. A much better question would be to ask what chapter are you on this week. You would feel embarrassed or realize you would need to start to work harder if multiple weeks in a row you were on the same chapter. With someone or something to hold you accountable you will reach your goals much faster and achieve the results you are looking for even sooner. Decide to make a form of accountability for your goals a must in your life.
