How Outsourcing Can Help Your Small Business

Solo business owners can sometimes feel like they are doing the jobs of several people, especially at the beginning. While it may appear to be manageable, to begin with, there are only 24 hours in a day, and no one can do everything. There will be a point where you realize that one person cannot do it all effectively. When this happens, it is time to consider outsourcing some of the jobs so you can focus on the critical role of growing your business.

Outsourcing is getting easier with technology enhancements

Thanks to technology, it is easier than ever to outsource work to a third party.  You no longer have to pay someone to come into the workplace to do the tasks physically, but you can employ someone to do it from pretty much across in the world.

It may involve laying out money to pay them initially, but we almost guarantee that in the long run, it will help you increase productivity and revenue, as well as allowing you to have a much better work/life balance.

Areas to start outsourcing in your business

As a business owner, you have the opportunity to outsource many areas of your business. Unfortunately, this could be a bit overwhelming when you are just getting started. Are there some tasks that are easier outsourced than others?

Some of the common tasks that you may think about outsourcing include marketing, content creation, search engine optimization (SEO), web designers, custom software development, bookkeeping and accounts, payroll, IT support, photography, graphic design, or social media marketing to name a few.

It can be rather tempting to outsource all the tasks that you don’t like to do. While this isn’t always a negative thing, it is important to remember that sometimes, there are some basic jobs that you have to do to keep your business running in an efficient manner.

The idea behind outsourcing is to get someone else doing the jobs that you are unable to or struggle to do or the jobs that take you away from other vital roles within the business.

I’d also suggest focusing on specific tasks that you have learned how to do or at least the basics of before you attempt to outsource this task to someone else. This can help you by knowing if the tasks you are outsourcing are getting done well.

Outsource tasks for your business outside of your specialty

Some other areas you may consider outsourcing for your business can include things like highly skilled jobs. These are the ones that you just aren’t qualified or don’t know what to do. This could be dealing with legal and financial issues or technology-based ones.

Repetitive jobs are another option you may consider outsourcing. this may include data input, making phone calls and setting up meetings and appointments and paying invoices.

Usually, the people who you outsource these tasks to work on a freelance or a contractor basis, or to an agency such as Praxent. This is beneficial to you as you can pay them as and when you need them.

However, it does also mean that there may be times when they are unavailable, and you will need to find someone else, who doesn’t necessarily know your business as well.

Finding the right person to outsource aspects of your business to

Finding the right contractor or freelancer can be difficult, to begin with. A good starting point is within your own network – ask fellow business owners if they can recommend anyone.

You can also turn to online networking sites, such as Twitter or LinkedIn to ask for recommendations and screen any potential candidates.

There are also websites such as People Per Hour and Upwork, which allow people to pitch for jobs and upload CVs and portfolios. You can also see if they have worked with other people through the platform and their rating.

Outsourcing for your business doesn’t have to be scary and could be the answer to taking your business to the next level. If you’d like to learn more about outsourcing for your business, I’d recommend checking out this book Clockwork. Check out the current price over on Amazon here.
