How To Get The Most Out Of Your Employees

Two companies could have the same amount of staff but have drastically different outcomes. What’s the difference? The first company used their employees as worker drones, who were there to do one specific task, and nothing more.

The second company treated their employees as individuals and made an effort to get the most out of them. From reading those sentences, it’s clear which company had the right approach. Below, we take a look five ways you can ensure you get the most bang for your buck from your employees.

Hire the Best if you want the best from your employees and team

You’ll only have yourself to blame if you put all the infrastructure a person would need, and they don’t make the most of it. “Why would that be my fault, it’s the employee’s fault!” we hear you say.

It’s on you because you’re the one who brought the employee on board. If they end up being unambitious, or less talented, or less of a team player than you wanted, then it’s because your hiring process wasn’t robust enough, and they didn’t get filtered out early on during the hiring process. If you want to make the most of your staff, then you need to have talented individuals on the team!

How to get the most out of your employees? Train Them Well

Even if you had the most talented collection of workers in the city, you’d find it difficult to get the most from them if you didn’t train them well enough. Your business has systems and ways of doing things that they couldn’t possibly know anything about.

While they may be able to figure out things eventually, everything will go much smoother if they’re helped along their path toward understanding. Beyond just helping them to do their job, training them will also show that you care about their progress within the company.

Also, consider spending time on getting your employees and team into personal development. Your business success will only grow to the point your people grow.

Reading good books and listening to personal development audio books are a few ways to help your team grow and it can help your business. You may want to suggest some of these books from my post on top personal development books.

The Right Tools

The best tennis player in the world won’t be able to do all that much if they’ve got a broken tennis racket. To ensure that your staff are able to deliver their best work, make sure you’re working with an IT company like Frontline.

They’ll help to ensure that you have an  IT system that’s speedy, efficient, and not prone to downtime. There’s all this technology and software in the world that can be used to increase your worker’s productivity; make sure you have them in your workplace.

Clear Communication

You’re not the boss of your team. You’re just the leader. It’s a relationship, more than a dictatorship. The key to any great relationship is, arguably at least, communication. If your staff feel that you’re open to hearing what they have to say and can have a conversation with you, then a lot of ambiguity can be resolved.

Sometimes, however, you are going to have to deal with more difficult conversations. There is always the goal of having effective communication, especially when you are covering something difficult.

If you struggle with these kinds of conversations I’d recommend checking out the book Crucial Confrontations. This book covers how to handle tough conversations with those you work with. This could be with superiors, partners, or your subordinates. Check out the current price on Amazon here.

Another great book for this area is The 360 degree leader by John C. Maxwell. This talks about becoming a good leader within the organization and developing effective communication skills. Check out the current price on Amazon here.

Freedom

Finally, make sure you’re giving your staff the freedom to deliver their best work. Little good comes from micromanaging your team; it’s a waste of your time, and greatly annoys your employees.

Take a step back, and let them go on with what their projects in peace: it’ll be good for your company.
