It’s The Little Things You Do That Can Improve Your Employee’s Morale

You know the importance of employee morale, of course, but do you strive to improve your employee’s morale? The happier and more contented your employees are, the more productive they will be. But it’s not just about getting the most out of your employees, as chances are, they will be less likely to leave your business for one of your competitors if they enjoy working for you.

Now, to improve your employee’s morale, you could do all kinds of things. You might give them a cash bonus, give them a better break room, or give them an extra day off each week. Excellent ideas all, but know that it’s the little things you do as well that can make your employee’s happy.

Consider the following as a few useful examples below on how to improve your employee’s morale

improve your employee's morale, improve morale, how to improve morale, how to improve employee morale, how to improve team morale, improve your employee's morale, improve employees morale,

#1: Show your employees a smile

It doesn’t take a lot of effort to smile at your employees! Instead of being Mr.Grumpy Face all of the time, turn your frown upside down and take the time to show them a brighter side of your face. Smiles can be infectious, so if you start the day this way when you come into contact with your staff, they might pay it forward with a happy face of their own. This will be good for business, especially if your employees have a lot of face-to-face contact with customers, clients, etc. And besides, smiling is good for your health, so not only will you be improving the lives of your employees, but you will also be improving your life too!

#2: Give your employees a cleaner workplace

Would you want to come into a dirty workplace each day? Probably not, as not only is it bad for your health, but it’s not conducive to a good mood either. If your employees have to come into an office that smells and looks bad because of a general state of uncleanliness, then their morale is going to slip.

Of course, if the mess is their own, they should clean up after themselves. But there is no harm in you getting the vacuum out once in a while if the carpets need a clean, or even a Steamaster if there are deeper stains that need to be removed. Not only will your employees appreciate the cleaner workplace, but they should also make more of an effort to be tidy themselves if they see you have made an effort to make the place presentable for them.

#3: Compliment your employees on work well done

When was the last time you showed your employees a little bit of appreciation with a compliment? If you are always complaining to them or ignoring their best efforts altogether, then you are only going to lower their morale.

However, if you can congratulate them on work well done with a sincere compliment and maybe even a high-five, then you are going to push up their morale and quite possibly give them the incentive to make a concerted effort with the work they have to do. After all, who doesn’t like to be shown appreciation once in a while?

#4: Thank your employees

It doesn’t take a lot of effort to say ‘thank you’ to your employees. At the end of each day, take the time to say those two little words in a further effort to show your employees a little bit of appreciation. And thank your employees in other ways too. You might buy them a small gift occasionally, or you could stick a cheerful post-it note to their computers with a thank you message. Check out this article on other ways to say thank you to your employees; none of which are extravagant, but they will make the day of the people working for you.

#5: Feed your employees

There’s nothing sadder than seeing your employees at lunchtime with a hastily made packed lunch consisting of nothing but limp lettuce sandwiches and a banana that has long since past it’s sell-by-date. But what if you could spice up their lunchtime by bringing in biscuits you have baked at home? Or by ordering in lunch occasionally, so they don’t have to suffer the paltry foods in their Tupperware containers? Not only will you boost your employee’s morale, but you will also improve their energy levels if you provide them with something nutritious to eat.

#6: Set up an incentive program

Do you celebrate what you want to duplicate? Another great way to improve productivity and reward your hard working team is through building an incentive program. Focus on creating a reward system where the more business a person brings in the bigger the reward.

This program doesn’t just have to be for salespeople either. You can create incentive programs regardless of the position. Make it focused around doing the right things and creating an environment where people have something to strive for.

Not having goals is a major reason people don’t excel as they have nothing to work towards. Using contests and incentive programs as a means of improving your employee morale can be very effective!

Finally Why Employee Moral Matters

A happy employee is good for business, but you shouldn’t only focus on that aspect. We all like to be treated well, so make it your moral and ethical duty to improve your employee’s morale too! And who knows, they might also bless your day with a smile, a compliment, and a lovely lunch offering that they have whipped up at home! In the end, everybody wins!
