Positive Tension: Making Stress Work For You

Being stressed out is never an ideal frame of mind for a person to be in. When you have so many different components of a business, from trying to drive traffic to your website, and boost the morale of your employees, to the dreaded finances, you’ve got to find a way to make stress work for you as an entrepreneur. In one respect, stress is a motivator, but it can also be a demotivator. Let’s find ways to make stress work for you in the most appropriate manner.

Minimizing in-house stress

By making the most of the services that you can outsource, this is one of the most natural components to minimize stress across the board. One of the big issues for modern small startups is they don’t have enough in the way of skills within the office.

Technology and cloud computing are two of the major concerns for any budding business, not just because of the threat of data breaches, but it’s also so an ever-evolving component. So you can outsource this to other companies that have the necessary skills and the ability to change with the times.

You can click here to see one such area but when you look at your components in-house, if you can minimize the stress, not just of the employees but also yourself, you will naturally start to save more money by finding the right people for the job.

Not taking too much on yourself

As entrepreneurs feel that, in order to make the business work effectively they have got to take on the bulk of the duties, this can yield a very negative outcome, not just for the entrepreneur, but for the business itself. It’s important to understand that you have your own limits.

Many entrepreneurs embrace delegating as a way to minimize stress because if you end up taking too much on it can become a slippery slope, not just in terms of the stress, but the fact that you are not willing to part with aspects of the company.

It’s a very natural part of running a business because if you build it up with your own two hands, it can feel like it’s your baby so you’ve got to guard it. But this means you don’t delegate so easily. It’s better to get out of this habit right now.

A great book on delegating and scaling your business with outsourcing that I’d recommend is Clockwork. Pick up a copy on Amazon Here!

When positive tension becomes too much, learn to step away from the business when necessary

Again, this can be to do with delegating, but it’s also about making sure that it doesn’t take over your entire life. You may want it to be your entire life, but this can be detrimental to your own health.

There will be a time that you will want to step away from the business, so you’ll have to figure out what parts you are willing to part with right now. And so, once you learn how to separate you from your business it can release much of your positive tension. You can even avoid checking that email constantly and it becomes easier to do over time, plus you can enjoy the fruits of your labors much more.

Stress is a good motivator, but it’s about figuring out where it really can help. It can help employees, but if you are feeling the pressure all the time, it won’t necessarily be effective.
