Practical Ways To Grow A Greener Business

Plastics are choking the oceans, landfills are piling high, and greenhouse gases are melting the world. Growing a greener business should be a focus of yours because every day you hear stories like this on the news, and every day they get worse and worse.

The planet is in trouble, and it’s up to us to save her. These problems are monumental and highly complex, but that doesn’t mean that they’re relevant to large corporations alone. Even smaller businesses, like your own, can do their bit, and save some money at the same time. If you don’t know where to start, then here are eight things that you can do to grow a greener business.

Replace Old Office Equipment As Part Of Growing Your Greener Business

Buying second-hand office equipment, like computers and printers, may cut costs at the point of purchase, but it wastes money in the long run. The reason for this is that older appliances operate less efficiently than newer ones.

This means that they use much more energy than they need to carry out the same tasks. Because of this, you such consider replacing such equipment with more efficient models. It costs a little more money initially, but you’ll make it back in no time.

If you’re looking to pick up some new computers, for example, you could check out some of the most popular models over on Amazon here.

Switch Off At Night

There’s no use in purchasing efficient equipment if you’re going to leave it on all hours of the day and night. Even when you’re not using your computers and printers, they continue to use energy as long as they’re plugged in.

The simple remedy to this issue is to turn your appliances off at the wall, or, better still, unplug them, every night you close up the office. If you don’t have time to do this or think you might forget, then put your outlets and light switches on a timer instead.

You can check out some of the most popular outlet timers on Amazon here.

Cut Down On Paper

Invoices, letters, flyers, receipts, photocopies, and more waste a lot of paper throughout the day. Although you may not be able to eliminate paper completely from your office, you should try to cut down on your use of it.

Instead of handing out flyers and other marketing materials, you could use email marketing or speech to text messaging, for example. You can also save contracts and other important documents on the cloud, rather than in filing cabinets, and take notes on a tablet.

Sort Through The Trash

When paper is used, it eventually makes its way into the trash. Rather than taking the convenient route and throwing all of your rubbish into a single bin, you should put out a few of them for different types of waste.

Most places provide one for paper, one for plastics, and one for general rubbish. This ensures that at least some of your trash is recycled, instead of it all being dumped in a landfill. Some businesses also provide a compost bin to dispose of leftover food products.

Use Natural Cleaning Supplies

Keeping the office clean is incredibly important, but, what’s even more important is choosing the right cleaning supplies. The chemicals in many typical cleaning products cause a lot of harm, damaging both the environment and your health.

Because of this, you should try switching to natural alternatives. These work just as well, if not better than the cleaners you find in supermarkets, but are much cheaper, and have none of the bad side effects.

Install A Bike Rack As Part Of Your Growing A Green Business Strategy

Cars are terrible for the environment. In fact, they’re one of the biggest contributors to emissions, which damage the ozone layer. If you drive to work each morning, therefore, you’re adding to this damage.

With that in mind, you should consider walking to work instead. If it is too far to do so, then cycling is also an option. By installing a bicycle rack outside the workplace, you make it easy to store and secure bikes. This alone may be enough to encourage others to cycle too.

You could even eliminate the commute completely by starting a home business!

Work With Green Vendors

You may be doing all that you can to help the planet, but that doesn’t mean that other companies are doing the same. By working with and buying from those that contribute to global pollution, you harm the efforts that you have made.

For this reason, you should make a point of only sourcing services and goods from those also trying to be sustainable and eco-friendly. It might take a little time to find such vendors, but it will be time well spent.

Grow a greener business with affiliate marketing

Technology has advanced so much in the past few years, and it has really allowed people to fully run a business from home. You can run Zoom meetings and market your business even more effectively online than offline in many ways.

The times of having to rent a huge office, or building a factory to start a business can be a thing of the past for most people. A great business you can start from home and online is an affiliate marketing business.

With this kind of business, there isn’t a commute, and you don’t need office space, all you need is a computer and internet access. Likely you have those already at home, or with a quick trip to the coffee shop, you can be up and running!

You just need a product or service to promote and a few tools like an email autoresponder, sales funnel system, and a smart phone, and you have a very green business on your hands.
