Arrange a penetration test for your cybersecurity
Penetration testing involves getting trained hackers to try and deliberately break into your system in order to highlight weaknesses. This can then allow you to fix these weaknesses.

Back up your files as a way how to improve cybersecurity
Having files backed up is essential for guarding against ransomware. This is a type of data breach in which a cybercriminal gains access to your computer and uses a virus take hostage of all your files, threatening to delete them unless you’re able to pay a ransom within a certain period of time.
By having files backed up either on an external hard-drive or the cloud, you can stop these attacks from being a threat to your business. Cloud servers such as OneDrive are usually adequate for small businesses, but you can always upgrade to a more secure backup option if you feel you need it.
Keep software updated as one of your ways to improve cybersecurity
Almost everyone knows the importance of having digital security software installed on their system, but not everyone checks that this software is up to date. Most digital security programs automatically update themselves, but this requires restarting your machines – if you have a tendency to leave machines on standby all the time, you may never receive this updates.
Improve your passwords
Many of us think of cybercriminals hacking their way into computers via complex coding, but most cybercriminals simply rely on weak passwords to break into people’s computers.
Never make your password obvious – think totally random! It’s worth having a few different passwords for different log-ins rather than using the same password for everything.
If your staff have to use these passwords, make sure to keep the password list in a secure place and change passwords whenever a staff member leaves (bitter ex-employees have been known to leak passwords before). It’s thought that the likes of facial recognition technology could replace passwords in the future – some companies have already started adopting this technology as a way of safeguarding files.
Train your staff on how to increase cybersecurity
There’s no point having security protocol in place if your staff haven’t been trained in it. Every time you hire someone new, go through some brief guidelines on important security measures.
This could include teaching employees how to react to suspicious emails (i.e. never clicking on links or sharing private information) as well as teaching them how to react to a ransomware attack (e.g. alerting you straight away).
Some of this stuff may seem obvious, but you’d be surprised by the mistakes employees make which can then lead to business-crippling data breaches.
