The Benefits Of Creating Your Own Website

If you run an online business, then you know that having a website is crucial to you being able to be found by more of your potential clients and successfully market your services, but many business owners feel like they either have to splash out on a fancy website designer that they can’t really afford or that they will just have to do without until they’re able to justify the cost, but in this day and age there are actually so many options out there that will enable you to create your own website in very little time and for a fraction of the cost that you’d pay a designer.

We’re certainly not saying that you should never hire a designer, but when you’re just starting out and are trying to keep costs low and bootstrap your business, then it’s important to focus on the things that are going to make you money right away, and having a fancy website with all the bells and whistles really isn’t the best way to go investment wise.

So, if you’re on the fence about creating your own website, then in this post we’re going to share with you just what some of the benefits are so that you can finally have the website you love that will enable you to market to your ideal clients.

It will save you money:

As we touched on above, a DIY website will always cost you far less than what a designer would ever charge, and we know that there’s a reason designers charge what they do – they’re professionals, after all.

However, there’s nothing to say that just because you create your own website that it has to look bad. Quite the opposite, actually. You can have a beautiful website set up in a day or two simply using WordPress and a drag and drop theme like Divi to create something that represents your brand the way you want it to.

Another cost-effective option for building your own website is using a sales funnel system. This option allows you to create a simple website with done for you templates you can customize for your needs.

You can build out sales pages, lead magnets, and even host full blow courses on these sales funnel websites. It also doesn’t require you to have knowledge of website design or coding.

You’ll be able to make tweaks in the future:

Probably one of the best things about doing anything for yourself in your business, in the beginning, is that once you’re at the stage where you’re able to hire people to do things for you, you’re not going to feel so afraid about handing things off and wondering if they’re getting done right.

Trusting people to do a good job with your business is hard, but if you already know a good bit about the job you’ve hired them to do, then you’re going to feel a bit more secure and will be able to tweak things if, for example, they let you down or aren’t able to work one day.

You may discover a new passion:

The funny thing that often happens with doing things in your business that just have to be done is that you sometimes find that you’re particularly good or passionate about something that you never thought you would be because you’ve never done it before.

So, for example, you could discover that you’re really passionate about design and then go on to offer things like design packages and reseller hosting to create additional income streams.

Learning is never a bad thing in business:

Business is all about learning, and the more you learn, the more you’re always going to be a step ahead of the competition, and this can never be seen as a bad thing. Wherever you go, there you are, and learning how to develop and build your own website is a skill you can bring with you anywhere.

You don’t have to be an expert website designer yourself to get results. Simply knowing the basics and enough to get the foundations of a website in place can allow you to hire the appropriate people in the future.

Doing things yourself can be a great way to start, but once you know the basics it makes it much easier to outsource things and make the most of your money doing it.

You can brand yourself:

Another benefit of creating your own website is that you can start to brand yourself as a leader in your industry. Most people I work with are in network marketing, affiliate marketing, or some other kind of home business.

In these instances, you most likely are promoting another business or company’s products or services. This is a great way to start in the business space because it can save you a lot of the upfront costs for development, and infrastructure of the business.

Typically you get a replicated website from the company, which is ok, but when there are thousands of other affiliates or reps promoting the exact same site, it doesn’t distinguish you from anyone else. People want to work with people, and other leaders, not just a company.

This is another great reason to have your own website as it can separate you from the pack.

You can build a following and drive traffic to something you own:

In addition to branding yourself as a leader in your space, a website can allow you to start driving traffic to something that you own. It’s great to build a following on social media, and that can be a great way to promote your business, but you don’t own it.

For example, you can certainly market your business without a website on various platforms, but you also don’t control those platforms. I learned this the hard way when I had built a Twitter account to over 90,000 followers and ended up losing the account.

I was managing several accounts personally for clients and myself and I learned that managing too many Twitter accounts from the same IP address could get those accounts shut down. Not the most exciting thing to find out when it was a major source of leads and traffic.

I was getting hundreds of visitors to my sight a month from that free traffic source, and sometimes 20+ leads a day, but overnight it was gone. Thankfully I was able to start a new Twitter account, follow me here, and it has been growing exponentially. This is due to the skills I’ve learned, but when you promote and build up something you own, like a website, it can’t be taken away.

For these reasons and more starting your own website should be a priority as a business owner. Also if you are looking to create quality content for your website to get traffic, leads, and sales, check out my free guide of how to write the perfect blog post below!
