Juggling Your Small Business and Personal Time

Do you need some small business tips on time management? Let’s face it, there’s a problem relating to small businesses that’s something of an inconvenient truth: they’re hard work, and take up a lot of time.

But of course, there’s more to life than just growing your business, so how do you manage your professional and personal lives, when it seems like you’re forever racing against the limited number of hours in the day?

It’s all about keeping both balls in the air, and not allowing one or the other to become too dominant. We offer four small business tips for time management below.

Cut Off Times

You’ll have a lot of enthusiasm for your new venture, but there is such a thing as being too dedicated. If you’re forever putting in twelve hour days, then you can’t be surprised if your personal life begins to suffer.

A good way to get around this is to have a cut-off time which you stick to religiously. If it’s forever open-ended, you’ll find yourself spending too many nights behind a desk.

This approach won’t just help your personal life, it’ll also boost your professional output too: twelve hour days are much less productive than people think.

Understanding Friends and Family

You’ll find it easier to work hard on your company if you’re not feeling guilty that you should be focusing more time on your friends and family. If you know you have a busy period coming up, let them know in advance that you might not be as accessible as normal.

They want your business to be successful just like you do! Of course, if you find yourself forever telling people that you can’t be there for them, then it’s time to review your working habits.

Small Business Tips: Make the Most Of Those Spare 15 Minutes

If you understand how humans work best, then you can greatly increase your productivity, and free up some time that you can then dedicate to your social side. For instance, people usually work best in thirty-minute bursts.

And how often do you find yourself with fifteen or more minutes to kill? It happens all the time, whether we’re on the bus, waiting to pick people up, or a meeting finishes earlier.

If you integrate cloud services for businesses into your operations, you’ll be able to view your documents and applications on any device and get down to work wherever you happen to be. Make the most of your small windows of free time, and you’ll always be working efficiently and ahead of schedule.

Implementing a social media marketing strategy is another way to make the most of your small windows of time. For example you might choose to use Instagram marketing as one of your main marketing strategies.

Posting a picture or replying to a few messages may only take a few minutes here an there throughout your day. This is something easy enough to squeeze in quickly around other things.

Also focus on evergreen content as a part of your social media marketing plan. This means that you create content that is on your blog, or YouTube channel, or basically anything that can be accessed years into the future.

That way you can create content once and it can continue to bring in leads and sales for you while you are focused on other things.

Bring In Other People

There might come a time when your working schedule really does become too much, and it feels like all your ever doing is working. If this goes on for too long, you should look into hiring an employee.

It’ll lighten your load significantly, and will open the window for expansion without sacrificing all of your free time. If you’re not ready to hire an employee, then you can outsource some of your tasks – ideally the time-consuming tasks – to a third party company. It’ll be a game changer.
