Making Your Startup Different To The Rest
You’re probably excited about your startup, but there’s a lot of small businesses out there competing with you. There’s about 5 million in the UK, and then there’s almost 28 million in the USA; it’s a terrifying number to behold.
And when you see stats like this, you can start to feel a little hot under the collar – there’s literally millions upon millions of entrepreneurs and business owners just like you, and now you’ve got to pit yourself against them.
You’re starting a business, you’re going to have competitors, it’s as simple as that!
But you need to remember all the various techniques and methods you can invoke to set yourself apart from the crowd (and make sure you remember you’ll only be battling a select few of those 33 million other businesses!). And that’s where your need to be different comes from.
You’ve got competitors all around you, and you’ve got customers to win over with just a few seconds of screen time on whatever medium they see your adverts; how do you do it? By emphasizing your difference to what’s already on offer. Time to get brainstorming.

Consider What Other Companies Offer Compared Your Startup
If you’ve got a company idea on the go for a market that’s already over-saturated with entrepreneurs looking to get in on the popular game, you’re going to have to do a lot of research before you start anything else.
After all, the competitors are going to be doing everything they can to beat any newcomers out of the water, and the prices you’re going to have to rack up as a result aren’t going to be enticing to any of the already serviced customers here!
So be sure to know your market and the company within it, to make sure your startup looks different both on paper and in practice to anyone who might be interested in it.
That’s a lot of companies to go around, so be sure to only look up their main practices for customer service, and what their recent advertising campaigns look like. If you want to go deeper with this kind of research, look to focus on their customers as well.
These are the people you want to come to you when the personalities already within this sector just aren’t right for them – so more specifically, you need to know what your customers want from the brands they shop with.
If there’s a common complaint about an already established brand, see if your company can solve it. If people don’t like the influencers this company is working with, be sure to find out who the customers would actually want to see as the face of a marketing campaign! You don’t have to be better than your competition, you just have to be different enough to be enticing.
Personalize Your Branding for your small business
Your branding is something only your business can pull off, and it won’t be suitable to any other company out there! …At least, that’s what you hope your branding will look like, and that it’s not just a run of the mill advert that any other company could adopt, switch out the name, and then use as their own.
There’s a lot of marketing campaigns out there, and hardly any of the ideas are completely original, so you should be aware from the offset that there’s a lot of work for you to do.
But everyone is personal in their own little way, and everyone has a slightly different way of approaching this, especially when you’ve got an executive team on your hands to offer up their own ideas for you to integrate in.
And being different requires you to brand yourself in traditional ways you’ve put your own spin on, as well as more modern ways mainstream media don’t tend to put much stock into.
So be sure to combine your software attempts with ideas that were popular a generation ago, to be sure you’re bringing in a taste of everything to the customers you want to impress.
Some illustrator training by Training Connection will do you good here, to make sure you’ve got a visual brand that’s as perfect as you need it to be, as well as a bit of market research – the first point on this list has you target the customer in their own mind, bringing a very personal touch between you the seller and the buyer who needs to be convinced!
Your startup can achieve the impossible: it can be different! You’ve just got to spend some time thinking outside of the business box.
