As technology has advanced it has paved the way people do business, and the introduction of remote employees has shaken things up. Managing remote workers can be difficult because you aren’t always able to maintain complete communication. You may also find that you cannot check up on them as much as you’d like either, and this can be difficult and frustrating for everyone involved.

Hire the Right Workers

If you want to get the best result out of your remote workers then you need to make sure that you choose the right people for your team. You have to choose people who are able to get the job done and you also need to do everything you can to push them in the right direction too.

Trust is essential when you are working with an off-site workforce, so if you are constantly worrying about what someone is doing then this isn’t good for your business. Find someone who you can count on enough to not have to worry, and then invest in them.

The concept of finding the right people also holds true if you have a business like network marketing, bringing on new coaching clients, or even outsourcing tasks to freelancers. You aren’t looking for everyone, just the right ones.

If you haven’t yet hired someone, recruited a new team member, or signed up a new client that you regret you did, you probably aren’t working hard enough. I think this is a common mistake people go through while building their businesses.

Stick with the saying or hire slowly, but fire quickly. Take your time bringing on the right people, as it will make your job much easier in the future.

The Digital World

It’s safe to say that there is no shortage at all of digital products. They will all help your team to communicate and they will also help them to collaborate too. Digital tools give you the chance to manage tasks efficiently and you can also schedule tasks for the future. Each company will have their own requirements so there isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. For this reason, you need to find out what works for you and you also need to measure your results too.

It’s very easy to miscommunicate when you are not in the same room as someone, so make every interaction count and also make sure that you are using the right platforms too. For example, if you are having to deliver critical feedback, don’t use email or text. Instead, use video chat or even ring them up over the phone.  If you need to invest in some employee phones, then also look into mobile phone accessories as well as this will help them to work hands-free more efficiently.

Be Clear With Your Remote Employees

Being clear or even upfront with your employees is so important. Remote work is far less structured when compared to work that is conducted on-site and this is great, but at the end of the day, you do need to make sure that you are giving some kind of guidance. Talk to your team about everything you need to avoid any confusion.

This can include deadlines, weekly tasks or even scheduled meetings. You also need to be clear about your own hours and your availability too.

Again if you are in the network marketing or coaching space you’ll want to set boundaries of when and how people are allowed to reach you. The last thing you want is a new client calling you at all hours of the day for every little question and expecting to use you as a resource for free.

While in network markeitng this is a little different as you have a vested interest in the success of your team, you should still do this. A great way to schedule your time and availability is similar to office hours professors have at a college.

You can set up a calendar scheduling app like Calendly.com for example. This allows you to set the availability with your organization and they can schedule a time to chat that works for both of you.

Create An Accountability System For Managing Your Remote Employees

It really is so important that your team know that working remotely does not mean that they can completely go off the radar. You have to make sure that you do reports every single month and you also need to make sure that you deal with any issues as soon as they arise.

This will help you to make sure that everyone is on track and it will also help you to keep your team engaged and excited about the work ahead. By involving everyone, you can then help to make sure that everyone is being treated equally.

Using a project management tool like Trello could be another option to help your organization stay on track. You can create various boards that have tasks you’ll need to be completed in your organization.

As your team finishes a task they can mark it off for the whole organization to be on the same page.
