Network marketing tips

Why do most people fail in network marketing

We’ve all heard that something like over 80% of new business owners fail, but why do they fail and why do most people fail in network marketing? In this post I’ll cover why most people fail in network marketing and how you can be one of the ones who creates success in network marketing.

You need an entrepreneur mindset and long term mindset to create success in network marketing

There certainly isn’t anything wrong with having a job, in fact for most people they build network marketing part time. It’s also something I recommend most people do as well when they are just starting out.

You’ll want to work your job to pay your bills and build your network marketing business to build your future life. Why is this important?

Well, you’ll need to cover the overheads of your business and life, and for most people network marketing isn’t an overnight success. One major reason why most people fail in network marketing is that they have a lottery ticket mentality.

They look at it like they are just going to show a couple of people and get lucky and hit it big in a few days of work and make a full-time income. At the same time, they also think that if the first few people they show say no or don’t get started, they can’t create success in network marketing.

Why people fail in network marketing is that they don’t have long term thinking

Most people come into starting a home business and they haven’t had a business before. This is certainly ok, but for most people, that means they also lack many of the skills to build a successful network marketing business.

This isn’t anything to worry about, because all of these skills can be learned, but most people have such short term thinking that they never learn the skills. Most people fail in network marketing because they quit before they actually can learn the skills to be successful.

If you aren’t where you want to be at in your network marketing business, you need to ask yourself are you getting good at something worth getting good at? Everyone is going to have a learning curve to get through to become successful in network marketing.

Your business will always only grow to the point that you do. If you want to develop your business into a massive income, you are going to have to develop yourself massively.

Why people fail in network marketing is often because they are looking for overnight success

In addition to the lottery ticket mentality, most people that fail at network marketing is because they are looking for overnight success. Nothing of great value is built overnight.

It might appear that way for some people that cruise through the ranks, but I guarantee they had a lot of personal development and building themselves and relationships before they joined your business.

I know when I started in network marketing I was an introverted video game nerd, with a small network and zero credibility. Most people weren’t looking for business advice from a nerd working in fast food.

At the same time building a successful network marketing business is not where you come from it’s where you finish. Are you getting good at something worth getting good at?

Treat your network marketing business like you are looking to get in shape

Look at building your network marketing business like getting in shape at the gym or losing weight. You shouldn’t expect overnight success in that either.

Would you expect to work out for a week at the gym for a week and then expect to drop 50 pounds and be healthy for life? No, you wouldn’t. It’s the same concept for building your network marketing business.

The only way to get fit, lose weight, or build a healthier lifestyle is to work at it day in and day out. You need to consistently work out, eat right, and make the right decisions each day for your health.

It’s the exact same with your business. When you perform the right action steps consistently overtime your business will start to grow and you will start to see results.

Results aren’t immediate in network marketing

Again why people fail in network marketing is that they are looking to have instant success. Building your network marketing business is like farming.

Imagine being a farmer and planting a seed of corn, and walking out the next day and expecting to see full corn stalks. Most people think that would be ridiculous, but most people apply that kind of thinking about building a network marketing business.

In addition to that most people fail in network marketing because other people influence them to think like this backwards farmer as well. For example, if you were a normal farmer and some skeptical neighbor asked you where your corn was the day after planting the seed, you would tell them it takes time to grow.

If that person told you at that point you were an idiot and that the corn wasn’t going to grow and that you got scammed buying that corn seed, you’d think they were crazy. However, that’s exactly what happens in network marketing.

You start building your network marketing business and after a few weeks if you aren’t rich, your negative friends and relatives start asking you “Are you rich yet?” At this point, many people start to doubt themselves and quit the business.

Unfortunately they just never gave themselves time to actually build the business. Just like if they quit after a week of planting corn because they didn’t see full corn stalks yet.

Improper inviting methods is why network marketing fails for most people

Most people fail in network marketing because they don’t invite correctly.  The invitation is the foundation to all success in network marketing.

You don’t invite correctly no one will take a look at your business and without anyone seeing your business will never get results.

Mastering inviting for your network marketing business is one of the most important skills you need.   This is also one of the best ways to avoid failing at network marketing.

When you learn how to invite correctly, will never have to worry about having people to show your business.  Learning the right conversation skills, and the ways to transition to sharing your business naturally is essential.

A common reason people fail at inviting for network marketing is that they lead with hype. Most people don’t care about how great your business is,  they care about what I can do for them.

So when you’re inviting you for your business, make sure you have your prospects needs in mind.  Come from a mindset of how can you help that person rather than how can you sell that person.

A way to focus on your prospect is to invite them in a way that solves their problems

Whether your prospect is warm market or cold market, finding out there pain points is essential to inviting effectively.  Ask more probing questions of your prospects.

When you do this, you’ll learn crucial information that can help you find a reason to share your network marketing business.  This could be for product reasons or business reasons.

Ask questions that dive deep and find out what your potential customer or business partner’s, needs and wants are.   Are they looking for a way to make more money to stay home with their kids?

Do they want to get out of their job?  Are they looking for a way to plan for retirement?

These sorts of things are what you want to find out when talking to people.  When you find out this kind of information, it makes it a lot easier to invite effectively for your business.

A great phrase to transition to business is “if I, would you?”  in Eric Worre’s book Go Pro talks about using the script to invite people to your business.

If you’ve found out pain points like wanting to stay at home with their kids, or making more money, you can use “if I, would you” to transition naturally to your business.

For example you might say something like” I couldn’t help but overhear you were wanting to find a way to spend more time with your kids. I can’t promise anything, but I’m just curious. If I could show you away spend more time with your kids, and not have to go to work every day, would you be open to checking it out?”

I highly recommend checking out Eric’s book Go Pro for many more ways to avoid failing in network marketing. You can pick up a copy on Amazon here.

Another reason why do most people fail in network marketing is they run out of people to talk to…well sort of

This is another complaint I hear people talk about as to why someone fails at network marketing. There is some truth to this, but it really has to do with not developing the right skills.

Prospecting and recruiting for network marketing is a skill that can be learned. Some people have a very responsive warm market, (friends and family), while others don’t.

Guess what, I didn’t have a responsive warm market, but that didn’t mean I couldn’t be successful in network marketing. You can always recruit what you’re not.

If you don’t feel like you have a great warm market, you don’t have credibility, or maybe you aren’t good at sales, you can recruit people who do have those things. On top of that every one of those things can be developed or learned overtime so you should go ahead and throw out those excuses as well.

Learning to generate leads for your business through social media can eliminate this problem. Imagine not having to hunt people down for your business, instead you had them reaching out to you.

Well this is possible and it works through attraction marketing. Attraction marketing another skill set you can learn and develop, and it works when you work it.

Attracting people to you starts with building value based content. Even if it took you a few years, wouldn’t getting 10-20 quality leads a day be worth it?

The time is going to pass anyway, you might as well develop a system during that time. That way you can generate leads on autopilot for you to help you grow your business.

This is a whole other topic, but you can learn more about setting up a lead generation system for your business to avoid this reason why people fail in network marketing HERE.

Why MLM fails – No training

Another major reason people fail at MLM they don’t get training.  How could you expect to be good at anything without training?

Any job you ever get as a couple weeks of training.  Every sport you play has practice.

Every game you play has the rules to learn. The same is true with MLM, but most people disregard this fact.

Network marketing has a learning curve just like everything else, and if you don’t get proper training you can’t succeed.  Great news is, is that network marketing is a learned skill.

Are you getting good at something worth getting good at? Are you taking time to develop the skills to succeed in network marketing?

A major reason why people fail at network marketing is that they don’t get training or attend events.  If you wanted to be a doctor you go to medical school. If you wanted to be a lawyer you would go to law school.

Well if you want to be good at network marketing, you need to attend events and read network marketing books.  Also you will want to take training courses, and watch video training as well.

There’s a lot of great courses and information out there that will teach you how to succeed in network marketing. In fact if you’ve not signed up at least 10 people for your business, you need to take this course.
