SEO Secrets To 30-Fold Your Organic Traffic In 8 Months Or Less

Here’s the thing with SEO, there are a lot of SEO secrets floating around out there, but every SEO expert agrees on some similar things. One thing when it comes to using SEO to grow your business is that it takes time. Building your organic traffic with SEO is not an overnight process, but when done correctly it can build a flow of steady visitors to your site passively. In this post, you’ll learn my top SEO secrets I’ve learned from SEO experts over the years that have helped me increase organic traffic by over 30-fold in less than 8 months.

The SEO Secrets of driving traffic to your website

So making a claim of growing organic traffic by over 30 times seems a bit outlandish, but that’s really the power of these simple SEO secrets and applying them consistently. You can check out the image below of the organic traffic coming to my site and see how it has exploded in just a few months.

Driving traffic to your website with SEO seems like this huge mystery for most people. Even as an SEO expert, many can’t even agree on exactly what works and what doesn’t with 100% certainty. Personally, I have never been an overly techy person and while getting into the technical side of SEO has value, I don’t think you need to stress out about it as much as people believe.

One tool that has really helped me to stay on track for SEO is a free plugin called Yoast. What’s awesome is this tool can almost make you an SEO expert overnight!

As you can see in the photo below, you simply pick a keyword you want to optimize for and Yoast gives you a list of suggestions to implement on your post to optimize its SEO. This is one of my favorite SEO secrets because it gives you a simple checklist to follow. When the light is green you know you are following the right steps.

Focus on quality content first over technical SEO secrets

One thing that every SEO expert can seem to agree on is that you should prioritize the quality of your content over anything else. It used to be that SEO secrets had you doing all kinds of technical SEO and making backlinks in weird ways to optimize posts.

The reality is that as the Google search algorithm gets more and more sophisticated, it seems to be putting an emphasis on the quality of the content more and more. Certainly, there is still some SEO optimization you want to do, and we’ll cover that in a bit, but don’t expect to cheat the system.

Checking all the SEO boxes and making the lights green on Yoast, will help, but it can’t compensate for poor content. Another thing that SEO experts seem to argue about is how long the content needs to be. Does the quantity of words really matter?

In my experience, I would argue that the length of your post does matter, but the reason for this is that a longer post usually covers a topic better. When you are writing content that you want to show up on Google, you need it to truly be the best result for the search term you want to rank for.

The technical SEO aspects are important and you should strive to make those better, but it’s better to prioritize the quality of the content first. I’ve found that writing at least 1700 words tends to help the post to start to show up in search engines. Often even longer posts do better, but again it’s probably because they just answer the query even better and help the user more.

Write content based on keyword research to improve search engine optimization

A common mistake people make when they are working on content marketing is that they just create content for content’s sake. They think that they can just talk about anything and everything and people will come to their website. Unfortunately, that is not how to get traffic to your website.

When you use content marketing to build your business and increase organic traffic to your website, you need to make content centered around what people are searching for. This means you need to do a combination of writing quality content and using keyword research.

So what is keyword research? It’s when you find specific terms that people are typing into search engines and determining what topics to write about based on the terms you find that have a high search volume and low competition.

The value in doing this keyword research first is that when you make content based on keyword research, you have a much better chance of getting more organic traffic from it. Without keyword research, you can make content, but the only way people will see it is if you promote it on social media or run paid advertising to it.

Most likely you aren’t going to write a viral blog post or create a piece of content that goes viral, so you need a method to grow organic traffic steadily without having to pay for ads. I’ll break down this SEO secret below.

How to come up with blog topics that optimize SEO with Google

Keyword research sounds pretty complicated, but there are a lot of free tools that can make it easy. There are some great paid tools as well, but if you are just getting started you likely won’t need to use those just yet.

The first place you can find content ideas and blog topics that optimize SEO is on Google itself. Simply typing a general idea into Google can give you lots of keyword research information on how well that post could perform and your competition.

For example, check out the picture below. By typing in a search for internet marketing, you get a section that pops up saying “People also ask”. Well, these questions are things that a lot of people are actually typing into Google search.

Knowing this means that you can create content centered around those questions and if you write a quality post, you’ll likely start to see your traffic start to increase. Now some of these questions might not be worthy of an entire blog post, but you could use them as bullet points or sections to cover in your larger post to help boost traffic.

Another place to get content ideas from Google is the very bottom of the search engine results page.  As you can see below, there are a lot of other terms that Google is telling you people are searching for. If any of these ideas you find in the related searches make sense for you to write about, they are likely to draw in good traffic if you write a quality SEO optimized post.

Find content ideas that optimize SEO with the Google ABC method

The last SEO secret to come up with content ideas with Google search is to use the ABC method. This means you type in a general topic, and then start going through sequential letters of the alphabet and see what Google suggests to you. For example, you could write “Internet Marketing A”, then “Internet Marketing B”, “Internet Marketing C”, etc. From there, Google finishes the topics for you, and you can find several that you likely never have thought of before!

Use longtail keywords to rank on Google faster

One of the best SEO secrets you can use if you have a new website to improve your organic traffic and SEO is using longtail keywords. You may have heard an SEO expert mention this before, but longtail keywords are basically longer search terms that people are searching for.

For example, a search term like “internet marketing” is probably pretty hard to rank for at this point. It’s super competitive and while it has a lot of search volume, likely the existing results are dominated by big players in the industry. This means that even if you write high-quality content that is optimized with SEO, you probably won’t rank for those terms.

You are likely better off starting with longtail keywords that are also related to “internet marketing” if that happened to be your niche. For example, if I wanted to rank for the above term found in the ABC method of “internet marketing affiliate programs” that could be a good option.

You could write a post on “The top internet marketing affiliate programs for beginners” It has a catchy title, it’s a simple topic to write about, you could do a review post on various programs, and it’s likely much easier to rank for than just the term “internet marketing”.

Now not all longtail keywords have a lot of search volume, but with some more advanced tools like Google Keywords Planner, you can check the average search volume on these terms. Google Keywords Planner is free and can be a helpful tool to give you more insight on if a keyword term is worth writing about to improve your SEO organic traffic.

Optimize header tags to improve SEO

So have you ever heard an SEO expert talk about header tags, stuff like H1, H2, or H3 tags and had no idea what they were talking about? Well, one of the SEO secrets I’d recommend implementing is using these headings to break up sections of your post.

By breaking up the sections it makes your posts much easier to read. Again, this enhances the user experience and can keep people on your website longer. This is one of the ranking factors for Google. If they find people quickly leave your site as soon as they arrive, they aren’t going to rank your site well. This is called the bounce rate of your web page.

Optimizing header tags is pretty simple. You just need to click on the paragraph button in the top left corner of your WordPress toolbar and then select which heading you want to use for a group of text you selected.

Optimizing header tags for search engine optimization

Typically in most website platforms, the title of your post or page is automatically the H1 or heading 1 tag. You usually only want one of those on the page.

From there you can just make each section heading an H2 or lower. Typically you want to lower the headings the further down you go into your post. Also, you want to include your target keyword in these headings as well. Now try not to keyword stuff, which means they use of that specific keyword is out of place and doesn’t seem natural.

Use it when it makes sense, and also try and switch it up and use related search terms, not just the single keyword you are trying to rank for.

Include videos and images to improve SEO and time on page

One huge SEO ranking factor is how long people spend on your web page and website. A great way to make people stay longer on your site is by including videos and images. People these days generally have a lot going on and might be multitasking when they visit your website.

By adding in images and videos on your content, you can keep your visitors engaged and they usually stay on your site longer. This also helps with your search engine rankings on Google.

When Google looks at your site, one thing they pay attention to is the bounce rate. Bounce rate is when someone comes to a page on your site, do they exit quickly or do they visit more pages on your site.

Usually, the more engaged someone is with your content, the more likely they are to stick around and check out other content. When someone leaves your site quickly Google interpreted that as though the page they visited wasn’t helpful and from there it can hurt your search rankings and discoverability.

Also, some people just like to consume information in different ways. Some people like reading, other people are visual and auditory learners. By including things like videos, images, and infographics in addition to your text, you can keep people engaged and on your site longer.

Check out the SEO secrets infographic below as an example of an image you can include on your site. Infographics work well too as they typically get shared a lot and people like to embed them on their own sites as well. This can help you get more referrals to your site and even quality backlinks without having to ask for them.

Write good headlines and meta descriptions and improve your click-through rate

You could follow the steps above and write some amazing content, but if the title and description of your post don’t build curiosity, it won’t get clicked on. If you have a poor clickthrough rate Google thinks that your content must not be that great, or isn’t the right thing to show for someone’s search.

One of the best tools I’ve found to help write effective headlines is the headline analyzer at headlines.sharethrough.com. You simply need to type in a title and it will analyze it and give you a quality score rating. The higher the score, the better the headline, and the more likely you will get clicks from it.

It even gives you tips on how to improve your headlines if you are struggling with getting a good score. Also, I’d recommend trying to keep your headlines around 60 characters or less as you can see in the photo below as that is typically where Google cuts off your title from the search results.

The meta description is what shows up under your title in the search engines. You want to make these contain the keyword you are trying to rank for, build curiosity, and if you can fit in a call to action to click on the link.

If you have installed the Yoast plugin I mentioned earlier you can fill in that description yourself. When you don’t fill in a meta description manually, Google will randomly choose what the description is or it is just a section of text from the beginning of your post.

If you don’t enter your own meta description it can hurt your SEO and result in a lower click-through rate.

The problem with requesting backlinks to improve your SEO rankings

One thing you’ll hear a lot of SEO experts talk about is getting backlinks to your website. This is when another site links to a post or page on your website.

Typically, the more quality backlinks you have, the better your site will rank on Google. Google sees backlinks as votes of approval on a site that the content is good. If no one links to a post, it must be bad, if a lot of people link to it, it must be good.

Unfortunately, there are different kinds of backlinks, some good, some bad. The bad ones come from spammy sites, or backlinks to your site that seem unnatural. A lot of SEO experts talk about various strategies to get backlinks and doing things like reaching out to sites to link back to yours.

Personally, I think this is a big waste of time. Instead of wasting time begging for links, you could spend that on writing more quality content that could get lots backlinks naturally because it’s a good post optimized for SEO.

When you write quality content, people are naturally inclined to share it and link to it without you having to beg people for links. Plus those links are natural and you spent zero time getting them.

Use HARO to get quality backlinks without begging

One exception to this idea of not doing reach outs is a site called HARO or helpareporter.com. With this site, you aren’t begging for links, but instead, you are simply providing your expertise as a source for journalists.

Reporters need sources and input for the articles they write and when you signup to be a source, you can submit your answers to questions to help them write quality articles. If they choose your answer they typically credit you and link back to your site.

This is a great way to get backlinks from quality sites, without begging and providing value at the same time. It might only take a few minutes to write a paragraph or two answering the question, and then you can be featured on well-known publications.

This SEO strategy can give your site a huge SEO boost, without resorting to begging or wasting your time sending out hundreds of requests to link to your site that never get a response or end up in the spam folder.
