How Google-Friendly is Your Business’s Website?

If your business’s website isn’t at all Google-friendly, you’re going to have problems going forward and it’s pretty obvious why that’ll be the case. Most people find businesses and their website for the first time via search engines, and by far the biggest search engine of them all is Google. If Google doesn’t like your website, it won’t rank it high in results pages and your traffic numbers will suffer. Here’s how you can avoid that eventuality.

Think About Indexing

Indexing might seem like something that’s complex and mysterious, but it nonetheless has a big impact on how Google treats your website, so you should do your best to get this right. There are plenty of companies out there that can help you boost your indexability. So, if this is something you know nothing about and don’t know where to start with, get the right professional assistance.

Link to Google My Business

If you run a small business that aims to do well in the local area, geographic search results on Google will matter to you a lot. That’s why you need to register your business on Google My Business.

It means that when people near to you make a search that’s relevant to your business, you will be more likely to appear in the results. It’s essentially a way of verifying your business with Google.

The more you can do to raise awareness for your site in Google’s eyes the better. Setting up a local listing for your business is a great way to do that.

It’s something I’ve done recently and I have definitely noticed an increase in search traffic to my site. Many people don’t take the time to do this especially if their business isn’t a “local business”. This is how I had viewed my business simply because it’s done completely online and is really location independent.

Certainly, I will work with people that are local to where I live, but it’s not necessary. Even with that in mind, a local customer is just as valuable as one on the other side of the planet, so if your business does business everywhere, I’d still recommend taking this step to promote your business locally.

Work on Loading Times

Google doesn’t like websites that take forever to load their pages, and why would they? The aim of Google is to present users with websites that are best for them and their needs, and that’s why they don’t want to send people to pages that are slow and don’t perform well. So think about improving your hosting service or doing whatever else you can to improve loading times.

One way to do this is to use picture files that are smaller. Often when you save a picture it is in a PNG format. This type of picture is of slightly higher quality than a JPG type.

While this might not seem like a huge deal, this could cause your sight to take several additional seconds to load just because the picture is a few times bigger. The quality difference is very hard to notice, and if it makes the difference between your page ranking on Google or not, it’s worth the slightly lower quality of the picture.

Revisit Titles, Meta Descriptions, and URLs

You need to make sure that your business uses the right and most relevant keywords and terms in the titles, meta descriptions and URLs on its website.

They should be accurate, location specific and as concise as they can be. But you also need to make sure that the keywords you’re using perform well for you when people make searches using Google.

Do Keyword Research

Keyword research is another thing you should be doing before you create content. You should always strive to create great content, but you also want to make content people are actually looking for.

This is where keyword research comes into play. When you take the time to see what people are looking for online first, you will know that you have an audience for that content.

It can also give you some hints to what kind of thing you should be offering as products as well as for lead magnets. A great sight to check out to find out what people are actually looking for is called Answerthepublic.com.

On this site you can type in a general keyword, like “internet marketing”, and it will pop out a ton of long-tailed keywords, or bigger phrases people are searching for. This can help you find hidden gems for content creation as well as give you a great way to rank faster.

Listen to What Google’s Telling You

Finally, you need to get into the habit of listening to what Google is actually trying to tell you. Google is constantly releasing information about its algorithm and the updates being made to it. This information is vital to you when you want to do everything you can do rank better on Google search results pages. If you pay attention, Google will more or less tell you what you should do.
