6 People You Need To Get Your Business Started

To get your business started doing your due diligence with market research and getting to know your customer is only part of the puzzle for a new start-up business. Having a good business idea and some solid financial backing doesn’t necessarily mean that you have the recipe for the perfect business startup.

You need the very core of your team to have the right blend of personalities and know-how to ensure that your business is going to be successful. Otherwise, you could be closing your business before it’s even begun.

The right team doesn’t only determine your path, it determines the outcome, and if you have any say in any decision about your business, HR and bringing on the team that you need should be one of the things you can shout about.

Startup businesses have unique problems

Startup businesses cause people to act differently, which is why so many companies that start with their co-owners being friends seem to fail. Pressure changes people, and whether that pressure comes from the outside, or it starts very simply from a disagreement about which startup lawyer to use.

The point is that a new pressure-filled environment changes people in ways that you cannot always predict. The whole team is the core of your business, and the founding members are not those you can change. So, what you need to do is ensure that you have the following six personalities as part of your business mix.

The Genius

You cannot run a business without the right expertise, and most of the time, the core management team are not the people we’re talking about when it comes to talking about geniuses in charge. The genius who has the brains behind the operation is – more often than not – a bit of a diva.

They will challenge the rest of the team in ways that you may not be able to, and they will be considered one of the most valuable members of the team given their “high risk” nature. Without this genius, your business cannot get into flight mode and start soaring.

The Super Star

Not to be confused with the genius, the superstar of your whole organization is going to be the person who hits the ground running and accomplishes something amazing.

Whether it’s as simple as ordering supplies for the office or keeping the business network running, you have to have a superstar to rely on or things to work.

This personality is someone that has to be with your team from the very beginning, as they will be too difficult to slot into the mix later on. This person should be eccentric and charismatic and nerdy, and they should be able to blend with your organization and the management team easily.

Every business needs a superstar who is going to show them how it’s done, and they will work very closely with the genius among you!

The Leader

Whether you have a business management team or not, you need a clear leader that everyone can turn to for advice and support. There may be six people on the main team, but those six people will need someone to be the frontrunner for their business.

The leader isn’t necessarily paid more money or given a bigger slice of the profit pie, but it means that they are someone to look up to and they have people who are willing to follow them into every situation.

Whenever there is conflict, and decision-making is required, this is the person who will have that energy.

The Veteran

Ah, a mentor. Startups are always formed around new ideas and new technologies, but there is always at least one person who has the ear of the team who has been around the block a time or two.

This person knows how to pull the strings of the industry and knows how to get things done behind the scenes. The veteran in your team is someone who has been immersed in your market for a while and knows how to pull the strings of those in the market.

They’ve been there and worn the t-shirt for almost every situation that you could come up against, and they’re going to be able to see people for who they are better than everyone else.

Sometimes, the veteran is the same person as the leader of the business, as they can lead the business with their unique experience. For some, the veteran is on board from the very beginning. For others, they join in later on.

The Seller

You can’t run a business successfully without the right salesperson to give your business some weight. A brilliant idea is one thing, but the ability to sell it to the masses is quite another.

Without a reliable salesperson on your management side, you’re going to be exposed to some risk, and your lawyer may tell you that. Sales experience is a must for a new business, and you should ensure that your salesperson is with you from the very beginning so that you have the right sales support no matter what.

The Financial Wizard

Money makes a business go around, and startups need a financial genius to help them to crunch the numbers and make sure that everyone is getting paid, from the stakeholders to the contracts on board.

Financial wizards need to be on the board of management because their advice will guide you as to whether you have the finances to implement all the ideas that are interesting you. One of your co-founders overseeing the finances of the business will give you that extra security that your business is going to do well.

Skills are one of the most essential things that your co-founders can have, and you need to ensure that these skills merge together well. When the company hits a vulnerable patch, you need to know that your people have it together.

Make sure that your staff know who is who, and make sure that you all have similar beliefs so your business can work.

On top of building a great team, you need to be the best you can be to get your business started

When you are starting a business, one key thing you should understand is that your business success will only grow to the point that you do. So as your business grows you’ll need to be focused on growing yourself as well.

Make it a priority to work on yourself and your skills in addition to building a great team of people around you. As the saying goes a rising tide raises all boats, so be sure to help those around you grow and develop as well.

Personal development and spending time each day working on myself made a huge impact on my success over the years, so it’s definitely an area you can’t skip if you are looking to have a successful business.
