How To Do A Testimony That Doesn’t Sound Crazy For MLM

Ever wondered how to do a testimony for a network marketing presentation without sounding too over the top or crazy? Well, one thing to keep in mind is that facts tell and stories sell. This is one key foundation for how to do a testimony at a network marketing presentation. In this post, you’ll learn how to give an effective network marketing testimony to grow your business, without turning off your prospects.

How to do a testimony that’s effective at a network marketing presentation – Keep it short

Often times if you go to a live network marketing presentation people have the opportunity to give their testimony. Testimonies that are done right can be an incredible selling tool.

Unfortunately, there’s always that one guy or gal that just talks forever and hurts your network marketing presentation rather than helps. One concept that you should know and educate your team on is…

Facts tell, and stories sell. Click To Tweet

Telling all the facts and re-selling the business is not how to do a testimony. If people are trying to “sell” the business, during a testimony it can often have the opposite effect.

You’ve probably heard of talking yourself out of the sale right? Well, the same thing is true when it comes to how to do a testimony for network marketing.

Think of a network marketing testimony as another form of a 30-second elevator pitch. Many short and powerful testimonies are far more effective than one long one that is full of fluff.

If you have huge long drawn out testimonies you are hurting your results. How to give a testimony that’s effective consists of 4 parts which I’ll cover in-depth further on.

What is the purpose of doing a testimony at a network marketing presentation

When people are making a decision about if they should join your network marketing business or not, they need a few questions answered. People seeing your presentation are looking to know that it’s real, if they can do it, and is it simple.

Most people have been approached incorrectly with network marketing or other money-making opportunities. For this reason, your presentations and testimonies need to establish your business as being real.

Social proof and seeing others succeed in either the business or with the products is what can establish that your business is real. Video testimonies or in-person testimonies are a great way to do this. If you are doing a one on one presentation a 3 way call with an expert is another effective option.

Establishing that your prospect can do it is another key foundation to an effective testimony. You do this with a story of someone with a similar background as them who has gotten results.

Finally, you’ll want to portray that your business is simple to do. This doesn’t mean easy, but simple and that there is a system to follow. No one wants the feeling of getting their starter kit and being all on their own. You want to establish the feeling that they are in business for themselves, but not by themselves. That’s what your testimonies should convey during your network marketing presentation.

Part 1 of how to do a testimony that’s effective is stating what you did before starting

If you want to know how to do a testimony that works you, need to relate with your prospects. You do this by talking about your background before you started your network marketing business. Talking about things like your job, family life, work-life, struggles, etc. will help you relate to more people.

The larger the variety of testimonies you can get from people with different backgrounds the better. This can help establish the belief that if those people can do it, so can your prospect.

Use testimonies from blue-collar backgrounds and white-collar backgrounds. Highly educated, and those who aren’t. The more opposite backgrounds you can have the better.

For example, if you were a doctor, but saw another doctor succeeding at a high level, it can increase your belief that you can do it. The same would be true if you saw someone who was a high school dropout succeeding.

The doctor would think that if someone far less successful in the traditional sense was succeeding, they certainly would be able to as well. Again, you are using stories to sell your business rather than facts and figures.

Part 2 of an effective network marketing presentation testimony: What was your limiting belief

In addition to talking about your background, you want to also talk about your limiting belief. What it was that was initially holding you back from getting started.

When people know you had reservations before getting started, it makes you relate better. Again the idea is to establish that people just like your prospects are doing this and are getting results.

For example let’s say that you were super busy and worked a lot of hours, have kids and were going to school all at the same time. So you could say all that and establish you are a busy person. Then say that you were hesitant to get started because you didn’t think you had the time to do it.

Another option is you were struggling with money.  You could say you were frustrated at work and you weren’t making enough money. Since money was tight, you weren’t sure if you would be able to do this. You didn’t think you could afford to get started.

Ideally, you want someone to share a limiting belief they had from each of the most common objections. In network marketing those objections are time, money, I’m not a salesperson, or it’s a pyramid.

So step one again of how to do a testimony that works is to talk about your background and a limiting belief or struggle you had when you first saw the business.

Part 3 of how to do a testimony: Say that you overcame your limiting belief and started

This step isn’t too difficult, you simply refer back to the limiting belief or struggle you had and that you figured out a way to get started. Telling your prospects that despite that difficulty, you still got started is very powerful.

So, for example, you could say something like, “You were looking for something different, and wanted a way that you could spend more time with my kids.  But since money was tight and you didn’t think you could do this.

However, you figured a way to borrow the money and I got started anyway. Since you’ve gotten started and plugged into the system now a few hundred dollars isn’t an issue for you anymore.”

For the “I don’t have time” objection, you could say something like, “You were super busy and didn’t think I had time to do this. However, you realized that if you never figured out the time, and did something different, time was always going to be an issue for you.

So you figured out the time and made time to do this.  You understood that a short term sacrifice of time now would lead to a life where time wasn’t an issue anymore. Thanks to getting started you can now live life on your own terms and have the freedom you never had before.”

Again you’ll ideally want to have someone speak to each of the most common limiting beliefs for success in network marketing. Those are time, money, sales, pyramid.

Part 4 of the network marketing presentation testimony is to wrap up with how your life is better now

Often people think that they need some huge income results to have a good testimony and that just isn’t the case. You simply need to talk about how your life is better now that you stared.

For example, you might be in a nutrition company and you are new and just started using the products. Your testimony could be something like, “I was doing xyz when I started, and I didn’t think I could make this work because I was super busy, but I figured out the time to do this and I’ve been using the products for a few weeks now and have more energy than I did when I was 20.”

This is a short and sweet testimony and it’s effective because it hits all of those points. You could have signed up your first customer, or lost some weight, cut back your hours at your job, or have more time to spend more time with your kids.

It doesn’t really matter how big or great it is, but just how getting started has positively impacted your life. This is the best way how to do a testimony at a network marketing presentation.

Use a 30-second testimony that overcomes objections

You can also use other’s testimonials in story form to overcome objections with your prospects. You can even do this before the objections happen.

For example, you could use someone’s story of how they didn’t have the money to get started. It could sound something like, “This is Sally when she first saw this she was struggling, working two jobs, and was living paycheck to paycheck.  She wasn’t sure if this would work and didn’t know where she was going to get the money to get started. She decided to sell some old clothes she wasn’t using and came up with the money and plugged into the system. After a few months of consistent effort, now life’s different for her, and she was able to let go of one of her part-time jobs. She’s also on pace to leave both jobs by the end of next year.”

Learn other people’s stories that attend your network marketing presentations. That way you can share their stories, and introduce them to your new potential customer or business partner.

You’ve probably heard that a profit isn’t welcome in their own home town right? Well it’s the same concept, you can say all the right things, and even have a great testimony, but if you use a 3rd party you can get better results.

Also, as a side note, it’s much easier to close someone else prospect compared to your own, especially if there isn’t a financial incentive for them to get started. Playing team can greatly help you increase sales in your network marketing business.

What to avoid in a network marketing testimony

Understanding the right way to do a testimony for network marketing also means you need to know what not to do. One of the most common mistakes people make with their testimony is going into sales mode.

Sharing your story works, but going into pitch mode doesn’t. Saying things like, “This company has the best compensation plan in the world and you need to join!” Or, “These products are the best ever and you’ll never find anything like it, so you need to get started tonight!”

Basically when you start telling your prospects to do something, or that they need to get started, it throws up red flags. Your testimony needs to be about transformation through the product or business.

When it crosses into selling or telling people to get started, their guard goes up. So make sure that you avoid trying to resell your audience and instead just share your story and transformation.

Keep your testimonies short and sweet with this format above, and you’ll be getting more sign-ups in no time! If you enjoyed this post you may also like my post on 5 network marketing basics you need to know.
