Top 4 MLM Prospecting Tips: How to Invite Effectively Without Being Pushy
For most people, MLM prospecting is a totally new skill it really is the foundation of growing your business. In this post, you’ll learn my top 4 MLM prospecting tips on how to invite better without being pushy.
MLM Prospecting Tips: Get out of pitch mode
One of the first problems most people run into with MLM prospects is that they are stuck in pitch mode. Instead of finding out how they can help someone with their business their main focus becomes how can I sell someone on your business.
Unfortunately, when you are in pitch mode you actually push people away, rather than attract them to you. The major problem with this is that most MLM invite scripts come off super pushy and spammy.
Your job when MLM recruiting is to simply share your information with the person if they are open to it, not to convince them they need to do it. As the old saying goes, “a man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still.”
Think about that for a minute…are your MLM invite scripts trying to convince people they need to join against their will, or just seeing if they are open to taking a look at your business?
MLM Prospecting Tips: Avoid hype and being desperate
There’s a big difference between being excited and just hype. When it comes to prospecting network marketing some excitement is good, but too much hype can have the opposite effect that you want.
When your main focus is hype, it actually comes off being very desperate. This is not an attractive quality for a leader. Think of building your team like dating.
No one wants to date the person that is overly needy and desperate. However, all too often when you lead with hype, that’s how you come off to your prospects. A much better attitude to have and posture while recruiting in MLM is you are going to build your business with or without that person.
People want to follow leaders, and people that are going places, not someone that seeks constant approval.
When your major focus is on hype it comes off like you have something to prove or that you’re overcompensating for something. This is not an attractive quality of a leader. As a whole, you end up repelling your prospect, rather than getting them to take a look at your business.
How to have posture while recruiting in network marketing
Now you might be wondering how do you show your business and have posture while recruiting. If you can’t lead with hype, what should you do? Well, one effective way to have posture is that you actually be interested in your prospect. Stop trying to be cool and stop focusing on being interesting.
People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. You’ll get better results in your MLM recruiting efforts if you start thinking about what’s in it for your prospect. Do this instead of thinking about how you can make your business sound good.
If you can find out how your business can help someone else first that’s what you lead with. Do this and your approach becomes less salesy and pushy.
How to prospect strangers in network marketing: Ask probing questions to find pain points
When it comes to how to prospect strangers in network marketing you’ll want to ask more questions. Typically the mistake people make with their MLM invite scripts is they come from a “features of their products” standpoint vs “benefits to the prospect.”
By asking more probing questions you will be able to understand your potential customer or business partner’s potential reasons for doing the business or buying from you. This can make a huge difference in the results you get while prospecting for MLM.
When you come from a benefit mindset and how can you help someone rather than how can you sell someone, your results will dramatically improve in MLM recruiting.
How to prospect strangers in network marketing doesn’t have to be hard when you ask the right questions and find out someone’s pain points. This really moves into the next MLM recruiting tips for building your MLM business.
Too often people are so worried about if they get a yes or a no, instead of focusing on what your business can do for the other person.
Not caring about your goals and focusing on your prospect’s goals can help you maintain posture and recruit more effectively for your network marketing business.
Prospecting for MLM: Don’t be addicted to the outcome
One of the best MLM recruiting secrets you might not know is that you shouldn’t be addicted to the outcome when you are prospecting for MLM.
Look at building your MLM business like you are a waiter or a waitress. After your meal at a typical restaurant, most waiters/waitresses will ask you if you want dessert.
As you’d imagine, most people say no to this right? Well, what does the waiter/waitress do at this point?
Do they get emotionally destroyed or do they just go to the next table? They just go to the next table, don’t they?
Well, it’s the same attitude you need to have for MLM recruiting and MLM prospecting. You are just there to ask if and invite people to take a look.
If it’s for them, great and if not, that’s great too.
Transition to your sales pitch naturally while MLM prospecting
Most people struggle with their MLM recruiting system because their MLM invite scripts aren’t natural. You may feel like you are being pushy or salesy with your typical recruiting script, and that’s exactly what you want to get away from.
Thankfully with the last step you learned for building your MLM business, knowing your prospect’s pain points can lead to a very smooth and natural transition into presenting your business.
For example, maybe you sold nutrition and weight loss supplements. Throughout your earlier conversation, you may have found out a pain point that your prospect had tried to lose weight many times, by going to the gym every day but never saw results.
A very natural MLM invite script to share your product at that point could be something like, “I couldn’t help but overhear you mentioned the other day you had been struggling with weight the past few years. It may or may not be for you, but I’m just curious if I could show you a way to finally get that weight off without spending hours in the gym each week, would you be open to checking it out?”
Take a good look at this example. Did you see anywhere I talked about the amazing features of the product? No, you didn’t. Because that isn’t what people care about. They care about how you can solve their problems.
Other phrases to use to show you aren’t addicted to the outcome and to transition into your business
There are multiple strategies you can use to maintain your posture while recruiting in MLM. They will show to your prospect that you aren’t needy or desperate for them to join. This doesn’t mean you need to be rude or specifically say you don’t need that person. It’s more of an attitude and energy you need to have while prospecting for MLM.
Something you might say could be along the lines of, “It may or may not before you, but I’m just curious would you be open to a way to make what you’re making now, but also be able to stay at home with your kids?”
Another option would be something like, “I can’t promise anything but I’m working on a new project and I thought of you. The business I’ve been working with his going through a lot of expansion, and we’ve been looking for some new people to help out. It may or may not be for you, but I’m just curious, would you be open to something extra, if it didn’t interfere with everything else you have going on?”
In these scenarios when someone says they would be open, your step is to set an appointment. That way you can share the information about your business.
How to set an appointment without being desperate.
Unfortunately, at this point, a lot of network marketers ruin their chances. They do this by being overly desperate while setting the appointment to share the information. When you have come this far and find out that someone is open to what you have you still need to have posture. If you don’t have posture when setting up a time to share the information, you probably won’t.
Most people in MLM go into beggar mode at this point. This ruins their chances of bringing on a new team member. Remember your job is just to share the information for what it really is. To do this you can’t lose control of the presentation process.
A lot of times at this point someone just sends their company link to the presentation. They do this or they go into explaining mode and lose all control sharing the business. This can lead to unanswered objections and concerns about starting the business. It also eliminates your opportunity to close or handle objections.
Have you ever sent someone information about your business and never heard back from them again? I think we all have a network marketing, but this is why you lost control of the conversation and the exposure process.
What to say to set up the appointment to share your MLM business
When someone is interested simply need to lead them into the next step of the process. Actually using the words “the next step” is is a very effective way to do this.
It might sound something like, “Great! Well, the next step is to set up a time to run through the details with you. It would take about 30 minutes to run through everything. What’s your schedule like this week? I know I could do___ or ____, if either of those would work for you in the next few days?”
Another option could be something along the lines of, “Awesome! Well, I’d be happy to clear up some time and go over the details with you and see if it’s a fit on both sides for us. It would take about 30 minutes to run through everything on the phone and computer. How soon would you have that time that you could hop on the phone so I can walk you through everything? I know I have a couple of openings later tonight or tomorrow. Would either of those work for you in the next couple of days?”
The phrase “I’d be happy to clear up some time…” positions you as someone who is busy. Again people like to work with people that are going somewhere, and that have things going on. Being busy can help establish that.
Use an alternative close to set more appointments
Another key point to understand is the alternative close or giving someone multiple options to choose from to set a time up. This works great if you are building your business part-time. That way you can offer times that work for you and your schedule.
It also gives your prospect a choice where the only options are to set an appointment. This way you get to share your business for what it really is. This is important because when you go into explaining mode you lose all posture.
When you focus on that while prospecting for MLM your results will be much better. You will make more sales for your MLM business and build a team much faster.
