Can Blogging Make Money?
Blogging and making money sounds like the dream doesn’t it? Wouldn’t it be nice to just sit on your computer and write blogs and watch money come in? Well is that really possible? Can blogging make money for your business? Well in this post I cover can blogging make money and how you can add blogging to your social media strategy to start earning income.
Why should you blog?
If you are looking to make money blogging, it is possible, but there are a few things you need to keep in mind first before you get into blogging. The foundation of blogging is why should you blog or why do you need a blog.
This first thing is that you own your blog. There are many social media platforms that you can build a business through and they all can work when you work them, but you don’t really own any of them.
Investing all of your time and energy in a platform that may be gone tomorrow isn’t always the best option. Your blog however, isn’t going anywhere unless you get rid of it.
Look at blogs and new content on your blog as a little billboard on the side of the highway for your target market. When you write quality value based content that solves your target markets problems, your blog posts become a very attractive place for your ideal clients and customers.
Blogs can also be a great place to build trust, rapport, and credibility with your target market on a 24/7 basis. Once you create a blog post and share it with the world, it can start working for you while you are sleeping.
Over time, this can lead to passive leads, sales, and signups for your business, and another passive income stream if you do it right. So can blogging make money?
Yes, but there’s a right way and a wrong way to do it.
The key to make money blogging is leading with value
Why should someone read your blog? Well the biggest factor is that you are providing value and solving their problems. A lot of people who want to make money blogging are selling something, which is totally fine, but you need to come from a mindset of providing value first.
All things being equal, people usually buy from those that they know like and trust. A blog can be a great place to create that with your potential customers, but you need to lead with value first.
The goal of your blog should be to provide solutions to your target market first, and then your offers and things for sale come on the back end. The things that you promote should be a logical next step that leads into your business.
For example maybe you are a cook and you have a cook book and cooking courses for sale. Your blog post could be about how to perfectly cook noodles.
Then at the end of your post you have a “cook your first Italian feast” video course for sale. The course is congruent with your free content, but also a step up in length and value.
Also people who enjoyed and got value from your first post, are a great candidate for your paid offer.
Can blogging make money if no one sees it?
As the old saying goes, “If a tree falls in the woods, and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?” This is a similar concept to keep in mind if you are looking to get into blogging to make money.
A blog can be a great long term tool to create income, but if no one ever sees it, it doesn’t really matter and you won’t make money blogging.
So what’s the solution to build your business with blogging? Well there are three foundation pillars that are going to build your business online.
- Build your audience
- Engage your audience
- Sell your audience
Most people who want to get into making money from blogging, completely miss this part. All they want to do is sell their audience and either don’t have an audience, or have not provided any value to them, so they wouldn’t buy anyway.
You can build up traffic to your blog though SEO, (search engine optimization), and get organic traffic that way, but for most people that can be difficult and very technical. An easier solution to the traffic problem to your blog is to build your audience on other platforms and then sharing your blog there.
With an audience built up on other platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc., you can then share your blog posts and get highly targeted traffic when your followers are in your target market.
So writing blogs to make money can work, when they lead with value and then you have offers that are congruent to the value found in your blog posts.
You can use blogging to make money, but it isn’t an overnight strategy, and you’ll want to start with building your audience on other platforms that lead to your blogs. From there, consistently building your audience and engaging them with valuable content, you can start to make money blogging.
Ways to monetize your blog
Finally there are a few ways to monetize your blog in conjunction with this strategy of building, engaging and selling.
One strategy is to have a “P.S. Line” at the end of every blog post, which can direct your readers to a variety of offers. This could be to a lead magnet, product for sale, application to be come a coaching client, discount on your products, among other things.
Using the “P.S. Line” in this manner is a very soft sell. This gives people the option to learn more if they are interested. Generally leads that are generated in this manner are very high quality, especially if your offer is congruent with the content your blog post talks about.
Another option to monetize your blog is on your side bar. The great thing about having offers on your side bar, is they are always there while visiting your blog.
People don’t always buy on the first exposure to you or your brand and offers. By consistently providing value and having offers on the side bar, those viewers can turn to leads and sales.
Make money with your blog with affiliate marketing
An affiliate marketing business it’s one of the best ways you can make money through blogging. As you write out your content on your blog there will be plenty of opportunities for products and services that make sense to promote along side your blog post.
There are many options to create an affiliate marketing business and to find products or services that are congruent the content you make on your blog.
One great resource for this is through ClickBank. ClickBank is basically a huge database full of different affiliate products you can promote become an affiliate for.
Surely there’s some kind of affiliate marketing product that would fit well with your blog and this can be a great place to start find one. If you’d like to learn more about starting an affiliate marketing business through ClickBank click here.
Overall the answer to “can blogging make money?” is yes, but it’s a process and shouldn’t be viewed as a long term income producing strategy.
